The name of our river basin is Hiwassee.

Location

Located on the western part of north Carolina and in Georgia and Tennessee. The headwaters is located in northern Georgia and western North Carolina. The mouth of Hiwassee is located at the Tennessee river.

Length

Total miles of streams and rivers is 967 miles.

Population

The population for the Hiwassee river basin is 31,271 people in 2000.

Hiwassee river basin

Discription

Our river basin is within 2 counties and 644 square miles long.

There are three notable lake the Apalachia, Hiwassee, and Chatuga. The clay county school system is located on the Hiwassee river basin. Brasstown creek is a tributary. Runoff from contruction sites. roads in developed areas carries tons of sediment into the streams.

Nonpoint/point source pollutants

Point source pollutants are groundwater and surface water and non point source pollutants is runoff.

Point source pollution problem

A point source pollutant problem would be dirt and bacteria getting in the groundwater.

Nonpoint source pollution

A non point source pollutant problem would be muddy water from the runoff.
