The SoRoCo Weekly Newsletter
October 23, 2016
Dear Team,
After working such a long day Thursday, as well as Friday morning for Parent Teacher Conferences, I hope everyone was able to enjoy their two-and-a-half day weekend. South Routt is known for our personal relationships between school staff and families, so while our district calendar only provides formal opportunities to meet parents twice a year, please continue to maintain connections with student's families on an ongoing basis. Although it takes extra time out of your already jam-packed schedule, a two-minute phone conversation does wonders to extend your caring attitude to parents and build their trust in you as their child's teacher and mentor. It is never a bad idea to call home, especially with a positive update. This time of year, it's always worth reflecting on what our CDE Teacher Rubric says about communication with students' families.
Quality Standard II Element E: Teachers provide proactive, clear, and constructive feedback to families about student progress and work collaboratively with the families and significant adults in the lives of their students
EXEMPLARY DESCRIPTION: …FAMILIES AND SIGNIFICANT ADULTS partner with the teacher to support student strengths and address next steps for learning.
Notice that in order to reach an exemplary level, the criteria depends not on what you are doing, but rather on what our students’ families are doing. You have opened the door to them, made them feel welcome, and inspired them to become your partner in deepening their child’s education.
Our small-town community is built upon strong relationships, so we are already off to a great start!
