Roles of SCM
A supply chain manager compulsory role is to link each stage of buying/ sourcing, making , moving, and selling between the suppliers and customers to the consumer in appropriate time.
The supply chain industry consist of two roles of management which identify the company location within the supply chain being;
- Upstream includes raw materials, suppliers and manufacturing.
- Downstream interact with consumers, customers, distributions, retailer and transport
As a supply chain manager you may witness the whole process of start to end or part of the chain. Overseeing the whole procedure as a supply chain manger would to be to plan, coordinate and monitor the transfer of goods and materials from manufacturers and suppliers all the way through to customers.
-working with buyers and managers to choose products that will sell
-Arrange contracts with suppliers
-decide suitable transport from suppliers to distribution centres then on to retailers
-Track shipments and stock levels using computer software
- Work with retailer to ensure customers receive their goods with the correct time and
manor
-How to improve supply chain
-Setting and meeting targets
-Recruit, train and manage a team of supply chain staff
Interpersonal skills
Every role within the SCM from the supply chain, logistics and transport, manufacture, purchasing, shipping and warehouse all require specific skills and knowledge within there working in environment. However working in these role of surroundings you must adapt your personality and routine to be committed to your job, set your self as an example to everyone else, the skills required are to have good communication skills, reliable, good planning and organisation skills, and able to lead a team and motivate them. The SCM is an international business which may require world wide arrangements therefore multilingual is an out standing skills on a CV. The Role of Supple chain management Include helpful skills such as maths skills and confidence in using computer packages such as spreadsheets and databases the ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines good geographical knowledge.
Working hours and Income
Working in the role of supply chain management would tend to work between 8am and 6pm, on a Monday to a Friday and may work evenings and weekends on a rota basis, or be called in to deal with emergencies. However some companies run 24-hour operations involving shift work. You would normally be office-based but would travel to meet clients. This could include travel overseas.
Starting salaries for graduates supply chain management can be from £20,000 to £25,000 a year. Experienced supple chain managers can earn between £25,000 and £45,000. Senior supply chain managers can earn up to £60,000 a year.
Career Opportunities in supply chain managment
The are many different course/ training from level 1-6 to achieve awards, certificate, and diploma which gain qualification to become supply chain manger. However you start out working in a supply chain office, as an assistant and work your way up in positions.
