May is Mental Health Awareness Month
Dear Parents and Guardians,
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to recognize and prioritize the importance of mental health in our lives. As children grow up and transition into adolescence, it is important to keep an eye on their mental health. The teenage years can be a challenging time, filled with changes and uncertainty.
As caregivers, you play a vital role in supporting your child's mental health. Here are some tips for supporting them:
Encourage regular exercise and physical activity. Exercise has been proven to reduce stress and improve mood.
Make sure your child gets enough sleep. Lack of sleep can contribute to anxiety and depression.
Monitor your child's social media and screen time use. Too much screen time can impact mood and social connections.
Encourage healthy eating habits. A balanced diet can support mental health and well-being.
Create a routine and structure for your child's day. This can provide a sense of stability and control, which can reduce anxiety and stress.
It is important to remember that mental health is just as important as physical health. By promoting mental wellness in our children, we are setting them up for success in all aspects of their lives. Below is an article that you may find helpful:

Thank you for your continued support and involvement in your child's education and wellbeing. If you have any concerns about your child's mental health, please don't hesitate to reach out to the counseling department.

Parent/Caregiver Survey - Region 10 Feasibility Study
About This Survey
Region 10 Technical High School is the Career and Technical Education school where students from MSAD 75, RSU 5, and Brunswick Schools go to take vocational education (technical) programs during their high school years.
Region 10 is currently conducting a feasibility study to look into the possibility of establishing a new four-year, full-time technical high school in the Brunswick area, and we’re interested in parents' and caregivers’ thoughts. Your responses to this survey will be anonymous; survey responses will be aggregated for reporting purposes.

Athletics Update from Mrs. Robbins
We have finally had some sun and warm days, and our kids have been able to practice and compete!! Let's keep the nice weather rolling in! I love seeing everyone out there!
I constantly remind kids about being humble and good sportsmanship! I have seen a lot of this by our kids during games!
The schedule can be found here (although subject to change due to weather)
https://www.brunswicksd.org/o/bjh/page/athletics
Please remind our athletes to keep water, sunscreen and even bug spray in their bags.
We will announce by 12:30 if games/practices are cancelled. Thank you for the wonderful support of our BJHS Athletics teams! As always, feel free to be in touch at any time.
Go Dragons!
A Note from the School Nurse
TICKS!
It’s that time of year again, and we are seeing an influx of students who have ticks crawling or embedded in the skin.
If your child is bitten by a tick that is found embedded, you can expect a call home from the nurse discussing the specifics.
Please be sure to educate your child to do a tick check at least once a day.
If your child has a tick embedded in them and they develop a rash (anywhere on the body), or begin to feel unwell, please contact your primary care provider or go to a walk-in clinic for an evaluation and possible treatment.
Thanks!
Nurse Jennifer, BJHS
Student Integrated Culture and Climate Survey
Parents and Guardians,
Throughout the course of this school year, a small group of 8th grade students, in conjunction with BJHS staff and a volunteer from The Source School have worked together to create a survey that will ultimately set the stage to produce youth-integrated and responsive change. Before the end of the school year, students in 7th and 8th grades will be invited to participate in this BJHS Culture and Climate Survey.
This survey is an opportunity for students to share opinions and feedback on their experiences at Brunswick Jr. High School. School climate and culture improvement are the primary goal as well as the student mental and emotional well-being. Within the survey, students will also have the opportunity to sign up to become future participants in the change process. Ultimately, integrating youth influence into the decision making components of our school structures has been the focus of this group.
Once survey data has been collected, students and staff will analyze results and seek to discover major themes of student experience. Students will have the opportunity to offer feedback to school staff and seek to collaborate and solve identified priorities.
If you wish to see a copy of the survey, have further questions, or do not want your child to participate in the survey, please contact Alanna Roy.
