African American Read-In
Oakview Elementary School will participate in the African American Read-In during the entire month of February. Throughout the month, one reader a week will virtually visit their child's classroom to read a children's book from an African American author. Each virtual visit will include a reading and a little discussion about the author. Through this event, we continue to support diverse authors and showcase their contributions to the world of literacy. Please refer to the sign-up form sent by your child's teacher. If you're willing to volunteer to be a reader, please complete the sign-up form and share your book title with your child's classroom teacher. Thank you for your consideration to be a virtual reader. Our students will be so excited!
If you would like to read but need assistance in making a reading selection, we are happy to help. Please let your child's teacher know and we can send you some recommendations or lend you a book from our school library. In addition, the Zoom link will be shared with our guest virtual readers from their child's teacher.
Sock Drive
Oakview will be supporting the WDHS Key Club with the annual Sock Drive. From February 14th-March 13th we will be collecting donations of clean and new socks. Your child can turn in their donation to their classroom teacher. The socks are then donated to numerous local shelters and food banks.
Valentine's Day & 100th Day of School
February 14th is Valentine's Day and February 15th is the 100th Day of School. Students can hand out non-edible Valentines to their classmates if they so choose.
