Principal's Weekly Update
Term 2 Week 10
RAISE Goal: to show integrity by doing the right thing (even when no one is watching)
Te reo phrase of the week: He aha tenei (what is this?)
Kia ora,
Despite the weather, we have had another great sporting week. Part of our Hauora (well-being) focus for the term is getting and keeping our students active. They participated in sports skills with Ghislaine from Kelly Sports, where they have been working on large ball and winter sports skills. Senior students have also been playing lunch time hockey in the hall, which has given them the chance to not only practise their skills, but to also keep active when it has been wet outside.
Farewell Assembly
It is common knowledge now that our wonderful office administrator, Raewyn Carley, will be finishing up at the end of this term. We warmly invite you to attend her farewell assembly at 9:30 am on Thursday 2nd July in the school hall. Raewyn has given a huge amount of service to our school and we are all looking forward to celebrating her significant contribution and career with our students and the wider community.
Learning Conferences
Please remember that we have our learning conferences this week, on Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th of June. If you haven’t already done so, we encourage you to make a booking with your child’s teacher by clicking on the following link: http://www.schoolinterviews.co.nz/code?code=wxwut. If you are unable to access it online, please make an appointment at the school office. School finishes at 2pm on both of these days.
Guitar Lessons
Starting next term we would like to offer our students the opportunity to learn the guitar. The lessons will be with Ben McLeod and cost $120 per term. Ben will take small groups of students and the lessons will take place between 1:45 - 2:45 pm on Tuesdays. If there is high demand, Ben is happy to set up additional days. If you would like your child to learn the guitar please sign up at the school office by Friday 26th June. Your child will need their own guitar (¾ size recommended) and a clearfile.

Here is some instructional writing from Joseph:
Making soap
What you need : caustic soda, olive oil, scents, oils and colourings.
Equipment : gloves, safety glasses, two plastic bowls, a stick blender, a thermometer, a spatula, two teaspoons and a saucepan.
1. Put on your gloves and safety glasses as caustic soda can burn your skin and if it gets in your eyes it can blind you.
2. First get 35 ounces of olive oil and put it in a saucepan.
3. Heat it until it reaches 30-40 degrees Celsius.
4. While it is heating up get three ounces of caustic soda in a plastic bowl and add 6 ounces of cold water. Observe the reaction.
5. Cool down the caustic water in an ice bath until it reaches 30-40 degrees Celsius.
6. Add the caustic water in a bowl with the warm olive oil.
7. Blend with the stick blender until it resembles a white chocolate mousse.
8. Mix in a teaspoon of each of your scents and colourings, then mix with a teaspoon for about 3 minutes.
9. Pour in a container lined with baking paper and leave it for a day.
10 Cut it up and store it in an ice cream container for a month.

It has been another amazing week in Room 3! We had a lovely new student join us and it has been wonderful to see how many helpful classmates we have looking after her.
We used multiplication tables to work out equations in tens and hundreds this week as part of our daily Karawhiu Taima (Activity Time), wrote recounts using lots of interesting verbs and had some free choice time as a reward for working hard.
Blake, Layla, Aden, Andie and Cash are pictured here working together to build a tower using Lego blocks. They used great communication skills and perseverance during their free choice activity.
