Relaying Messages to Students

This year, we have had a greater number of parents calling the office to get messages to their students or asking us to have their student call home during the school day. This is not something that we can continue to do, unless in the event of an unforeseen emergency. Please make arrangements and communicate plans before your student comes to school in the morning. We realize that students do not have their cell phones on them during the school day, so sending a text isn't possible. Please consider emailing your student during the day on their school email if there is a message or something that needs communicated. We appreciate your cooperation with this moving forward.

Chromebook Customization

The district is seeing students across the district who are adding puffy stickers and rhinestones to their Chromebooks. At this point we ask that students remove any rhinestones, gems, pop-sockets, puffy stickers. These types of stickers cause damage to the devices.

Pressure points and cracks in the display.

-If there is pressure applied to the top of the device while it is closed, such as in a stack of books, and there are rhinestones or puffy stickers, this will cause uneven pressure. If too much pressure is applied across the top, it may crack the display.

-We have also seen gems put on the palm-rest that have directly caused cracks in the display since they are raised and push directly on the display when the lid is closed.

Removal of stickers and gems

- When removing the stickers or gems, sometimes there is residue that must be scraped off causing scuffing and scratches. We have also seen where the residue does not come off because the adhesive is so strong. (We can’t use any harsh chemicals as it will damage the plastics)

The damage caused can add up and sometimes lead to a whole device replacement if multiple parts are damaged. We would like to try to avoid cracked displays and damage due to the stickers.

Personalizing Devices
Students are permitted to place school appropriate stickers on the top of their Chromebooks only. The presence of weapons, alcohol, drug or gang related symbols or pictures are not permitted per school/district policies. Stickers cannot cover the PLSD logo or the asset tag number. Stickers are not permitted on the sides or bottom of the Chromebook. 3D stickers, Puffy Stickers, or Rhinestone and Gemstone’s are not permitted as they can cause damage to the device.

• Coloring, Drawing, or Writing on the device is not permitted.

• Cleaning fines will be applied for any markings on the device. If they can not be removed because the medium used to color, draw, or write was permanent, there will be a cost to replace those parts.

• Harsh chemicals cannot be used to clean off devices as it causes further damage to the plastics.

For Your Information

CISV is a program whose goals are very similar to those of our high school Global Scholars program: cultural competency, global awareness and cross-cultural communication.

There is going to be a "Village" event in Columbus this summer, where many students from around the world come to Columbus, so it might be a good way for middle school and Jr High students to get involved prior to starting world languages or Global Scholars.

Checking Student Grades

Every Friday students will take a survey that asks them to reflect on their grades in their classes. The student responses about their grades, assignment completion and attendance will be emailed directly to their school account. Please check in with your student, have them show you their responses. This can be a great way to find out what resources/support your student may need and/or give you a reason to celebrate with your student. If you find that you have additional questions about your student's grades, log into infinite campus for more details.

Lost and Found

Please have your child check the tubs in the hallway by the Choir Room for any items they may have missing. We already have a wide selection of lunch boxes, jackets and other items that need their owners.

mCORE Heart Screening

The mCORE Foundation to Provide Cardiac Screening Opportunity for
Ridgeview Junior High School

PREVENTATIVE HEART SCREENINGS
Here is information on an excellent opportunity that’s been made available to our students at Ridgeview Junior High School. We are partnering with mCORE™ — Mobile Cardiac Overview and Risk Evaluation — to screen our students for the cardiac conditions and abnormalities which may put them at risk of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). mCORE partners with high schools and athletic organizations to give convenient and dependable heart screenings to students.

SCA is the #1 Killer of Student Athletes Each Year, many of which could have been prevented with a simple examination like this.

The time requirement is approximately 10-12 minutes per student. Each student will be given an EKG and Echo screening and these tests typically cost more than $2000 in a clinical setting. You may use your Healthcare Spending Account or Flex Care Spending Account. All screenings are performed by a Registered Cardiac Sonographer and results are read by mCORE Medical Director and our pediatric cardiology team.
(Please contact mCORE should financial hardship preclude you from taking part.)
