Jordan/Jackson News You Can Use
November 3, 2022
Dear Families,
It’s hard to believe that we are in the month of November already. The end of November marks the end of Term I for the academic year. The distribution date for report cards is Friday, December 2nd.
With that being said we are unrolling a revised version of our student report card this year. This revision has been a result of comprehensive work completed over the 2020-21 and 2021-22 school years. That process culminated with a recent presentation to our School Committee. If you would like to view the full presentation, please click here. In the coming weeks we will share additional reference documents to support families in understanding the revisions.
One of the most important things to consider when reviewing your child’s report card is that teachers are assessing student progress towards meeting end-of-year grade-level standards.
Lastly, we will be returning to full in-person family conferences this year. Teachers will be reaching out to families to schedule conferences. Conference dates are as follows:
December 8th - Afternoon and evening conferences
December 9th - Afternoon conferences
Thank you,
John Nieratko

There's a lot to learn about pumpkins when it comes to science!
Lesson on What is Mass?
Pumpkin Investigation
Lesson on What is Circumference?
Third grade students in Ms. Fox, Mrs. Lagerstedt and Mrs. Shevlin’s classes used pumpkins grown in the Jordan Jackson Garden to complete a Pumpkin Investigation in the Science Lab. Students found similarities and differences in traits, measured and compared circumference and mass, and made predictions & tested whether the pumpkins would float or sink. Did you know that pumpkins are fruits?

iCARE Reading Volunteers Needed
Kim Piro is soliciting volunteers this year to serve as classroom readers to benefit her "iCARE” (Introducing Children to Acceptance through Reading and Education) program began 19 years ago to teach students in grades preschool thru 5 about their special needs peers. Books focus on a variety of different disabilities and are available in the school’s library.
If you are interested in volunteering, it can be very rewarding and takes as little as half an hour of your time. If you are an interested parent who would like to read one of these books to a classroom, please call/text Kim Piro at 781-630-0463 or email her at kimpiro20@gmail.com. You can also register to be a reader online at www.thejamiefund.org. Go to the website and click where it asks you to volunteer. Readings will start in January and go through February/March at all three elementary schools.
