The Mata Memo
March 23, 2021
Principal's Message
Dear Mata families,
We hope that you truly enjoyed spring break with laughter, time with family, and just doing nothing. Rest and self-care are so important and should be prioritized for adults as well as children. It is important to take time to relax and unplug.
Our work for the remainder of the school year will be to mitigate learning loss for our children. This will only happen through quality instruction and data tracking that focuses on the needs of each child. We now have data from MAP and common assessment #4, our teachers will use this data to build intervention plans and tutoring groups that focus on filling gaps and growing the child. Our staff at Mata are in the continuous pursuit of excellence for the children of Eduardo Mata Montessori School!

Let's Make Music!
Hello Mata Montessori families!
All elementary students (PreK-6th grade) are receiving music kits to use during Mrs. Vallejo’s music class for Specials. In-person students have already received these in music class. The students will keep these at school until the end of the school year.
Virtual students will need to pick theirs up in the main office during the week of March 22-26 (the week after Spring Break).
Students who attended classes on campus between February 24-March 12 have received theirs. If you aren’t sure whether or not you need to pick one up, please call the main office (972-749-7500).
If you have any other questions, please contact Mrs. Vallejo (mivallejo@dallasisd.org).
Sincerely,
Mrs. Vallejo

TELPAS
Dyslexia Screening
In Dallas ISD, our focus is on providing high-quality reading instruction that meets the unique needs of all learners. In an effort to identify and support students that are demonstrating reading difficulties, and in response to §TEC 38.003, §TEC 28.006, and House Bill-1886, all students in the grade levels below will be screened as appropriate for dyslexia, reading difficulties, and/or related disorders. The screener is designed to identify the areas of concern and components of reading that may suggest characteristics of dyslexia. The screeners for each grade level that will be screened are listed below:
Kindergarten TX-KEA End of Year (June 1-18)
First MAP Middle of Year (January 5 - 29)
Second MAP End of Year (June 1 - 18)
6th/7th MAP Middle of Year (February 1-19)
End of Year (June 1 - 18)
This screener is not a comprehensive dyslexia assessment designed to diagnose your child with dyslexia. If a disability is suspected as the underlying reason for any demonstrated difficulties in the areas of reading, a student may be referred for an evaluation. At any time, a parent can request an evaluation if they believe their child has a disability and requires specially designed instruction.
We are dedicated to identifying and supporting dyslexia and other reading difficulties across the district. For additional information or should you have any questions about the screeners above, please contact our campus.
Dyslexia Parents' Nights
The safety of our students and staff remains our first priority. Contact tracing occurs and if anyone is identified as close contact, they will be notified by the school and required to quarantine. To learn about the positive cases at Mata or in the district, you may visit the dashboard which is updated daily at 5 PM. COVID Dashboard Please see the most updated picture below.
We remain committed to following extensive safety protocols, which include social distancing in classrooms, hallways, offices, and elevators; masks are required for every staff member and student throughout the day; hand washing practices are regular parts of everyone’s day; thorough cleanings are scheduled, and contact tracing measures are in place and being followed.
