FEBRUARY 13-16 FRIENDSHIP WEEK

Friendship Week is designed to help us stretch ourselves and make a difference in others lives. We want to encourage our students and staff to participate by wearing a certain color each day this week. We will be talking about Friendship Week during our SEL lessons each morning.

Monday (2/13)- Wear Yellow & give Thumbs Up or Air High Fives: Give as many thumbs up or air high fives throughout the day that you can.

Tuesday (2/14)-Wear Red & Encourage everyone: Encourage kids to smile at people. Allow your students to give at least one compliment to one of their classmates.

Wednesday (2/15)-Wear Purple & Learn people's names: Take a minute or two for a quick competition to see who knows all of the students in the rooms' names.

Thursday (2/16)-Wear your Go Texan gear & Look for people that need help: Take a couple of minutes to do a random act of kindness with your class.

Friday (2/17)- Own it (No School): Talk with your family about all of the previous days' activities from the week, and continue to do these activities in our homes.

FROM NURSE SANTO

Illness update:

We have several illnesses making the rounds at BBE including Strep throat and the Flu. Symptoms I am seeing include: fever, congestion, cough, sore throat, headache, body aches, chills, etc. For multiple symptoms, we recommend a doctor visit for the correct diagnosis and treatment to be started as soon as possible.

Your child will not be allowed back at school for at least 24 hours after their fever is gone. (Fever should be gone without the use of a fever-reducing medicine Tylenol, ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve, etc.) A fever is defined as 100°F (37.8°C) or higher. Symptoms of a fever are headache and pain or burning in the eyes.

For strep throat your child will need to be fever free (for 24 hours and without fever reducing medications) and have been on their antibiotics for 24 hours to return.

Prevention: The best way to keep from getting sick is to wash your hands often and avoid sharing eating utensils, like forks or cups. Also teach your children to cover their cough and blow their nose. If your child complains of a headache or pain in the eyes, these are both symptoms of fever. Please do not give your child a fever reducing medication such as Tylenol, ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve, etc. and send them to school as this is how illness spreads.

Out of those students, one student will be chosen to be the "Grade Level Student of the Month" and will receive a yard sign to display in their yard.
