FROM NURSE SANTO
Illness update:
We have several illnesses making the rounds at BBE including Strep throat and the Flu. Symptoms I am seeing include: fever, congestion, cough, sore throat, headache, body aches, chills, etc. For multiple symptoms, we recommend a doctor visit for the correct diagnosis and treatment to be started as soon as possible.
Your child will not be allowed back at school for at least 24 hours after their fever is gone. (Fever should be gone without the use of a fever-reducing medicine Tylenol, ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve, etc.) A fever is defined as 100°F (37.8°C) or higher. Symptoms of a fever are headache and pain or burning in the eyes.
For strep throat your child will need to be fever free (for 24 hours and without fever reducing medications) and have been on their antibiotics for 24 hours to return.
Prevention: The best way to keep from getting sick is to wash your hands often and avoid sharing eating utensils, like forks or cups. Also teach your children to cover their cough and blow their nose. If your child complains of a headache or pain in the eyes, these are both symptoms of fever. Please do not give your child a fever reducing medication such as Tylenol, ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve, etc. and send them to school as this is how illness spreads.

- Seal it in an envelope. Write your child's name and teacher name on the envelope.
