The Suffragettes
Minnie Rosenthal (A-1-1) 1868-1943: Mrs. Rosenthal led many women’s groups, including the Women’s Federated Clubs, the Women’s Club, and the Lockwood Hospital Auxiliary.
Emma Baker (L-57-5) 1849-1929: Married Civil War veteran Vestall Baker in 1917. He promoted prohibition for forty years.
Grace Jessop (K-102-3) 1870-1949: She was a Petoskey school teacher for 44 years. She was president of the library board, a member of the Art Study Club, and helped organize the PTA in Petoskey.
Lulu Sweeny (H-64-3) 1887-1927: She was a member of the Queen Esther Shrine and the Rebekah Lodge.
Alma Critchell (L-105-5) 1874-1922: She was president of the Petoskey Federation of Women’s Clubs and a member of the Rebekahs. She was a teacher in Charlevoix and Emmet counties for many years.
Marguerite Reusch (A-141-4) 1870-1943: Marguerite Reusch came to Petoskey with her husband in 1900. She was the organizing regent of the Pe-to-se-ga Chapter of the Petoskey Daughters of the American Revolution. She was widely known as a genealogist, helping DAR members research their family history. She was active in many women’s associations, including the Red Cross, especially during World War I.
Margaret Hankey Curtis (F-84-17) 1878-1950: She was director of the First National Bank and a member of the hospital auxiliary. She was also active in the First Presbyterian Church.
