CROSSING GUARD--we NEED YOU!
We have successfully completed the first nine weeks of school with our students!
Our staff has been working hard to enter report card grades in Home Access Center (HAC). As our staff prepares report cards for the end of the nine weeks, please remember, there are no hard copies of report cards. Please spend some time this week ensuring that you are able to review grades in the Home Access Center (HAC). For assistance with HAC, please visit this website: https://tinyurl.com/38sp2zns
1st nine-week report card grades will be viewable in HAC starting Wednesday, October 19th at 10:00 AM.
UPDATES ON ARRIVAL/DISMISSAL for car riders/bikers/walkers.
We have spent an entire 9 weeks observing, evaluating, and collaborating with our students, staff, and community about our safety procedures. Now we are ready to make a few tweaks to our processes, especially as it relates to car rider/biker/walkers. These slight shifts should not cause any significant changes to our systems. Just as we have observed for nine weeks, we will continue our observation process to bring you the BEST situation for arrival/dismissal.
- MORNING CAR RIDER adjustment--our instructional day starts promptly at 8:30 am. Our car rider line has been extending well beyond the start of our school day. We can no longer sustain this practice. I need staff inside the building to start instruction at 8:30 am. Moving forward, our CONES for the morning car rider will go in place at 8:27 am. This time will allow all the cars to the back drop-off area by 8:30 am.
- MORNING Walker/Bikers--Please strive to have all bikers/walkers on campus as early as 8:05. Our staff goes inside the building to start the school day at 8:30 am. Please work with us to ensure bikers/walkers are on campus by 8:30 am.
- Afternoon CAR RIDER adjustment--as you are aware, our systems are going so much faster. We've had enough time to fine-tune our systems for car rider pickup. Our school day ends promptly at 3:40 pm each day. By 3:50-3:55, our car riders are mostly loaded, but there is a group of families that are coming between 3:55-4:05. We are striving for efficiency. We are going to establish an end time for getting in line for the end-of-day car rider. From observation, we will put the cones out at 3:55 pm each day for the car rider line for dismissal. ALL cars should be in line no later than 3:55 pm daily.
Of course, with the above-mentioned adjustments, we will continue to monitor over the next several weeks to ensure we have made the best adjustments.
I've heard from many families praising our efforts with keeping our students safe. I do realize that no one wants to wait in line, but please understand that with 1300 students, in order to do things efficiently and safely, there is going to be some wait time. I do realize that all of us are super busy, but my ultimate goal is student safety. With that said, please refrain from trying to pick up students in the front office after 3:15 pm each day. We are not prepared to dismiss students from the front office area after 3:15 pm.
Once again, thank you for your understanding in the matter as we strive for excellence!
Sincerely,
Charlotte Gilder, Principal

KEYS MENTORING
We are searching for campus mentors!
The KEYS Mentoring program (Keep Encouraging Youth toward Success) has been so helpful to our students in Katy ISD. I'm sure you are aware that mentoring creates a positive impact in youth’s lives. They find more self-confidence, self-esteem, and are able to create big goals for themselves. Our goal is for every student who needs a mentor to have one. No waitlists, or students who go without because we are short. If you are open to mentoring or know someone who would love to mentor at Schmalz, please complete or share the application at the link below and be sure to choose Schmalz as your mentor campus. Likewise, if you would like your student to have a mentor, please contact one of the school counselors for more information.
