First Grade News
Mrs. Baker, Room 22
Highlights from Week 27: March 14-March 18
I hope you are enjoying some time off with your family this Spring Break!
It was a wonderful last week for me in Room 22!! I absolutely love the book the kids made! There were some very creative name suggestions, it will be a tough decision. :) Thank you for the Target gift card, it was extremely generous. Brigham and I are very grateful.
This week we continued to prepare our Data Notebooks for conferences. We are very excited to show you our classroom and also our academic growth during conferences. In math, we explored telling time to the hour and the half-hour.
On Wednesday, we were lucky to have Mrs. Work join us for the whole day. This was a special time for the kids and me as well. Most of the kids already knew her, as she has subbed in our building for years. I enjoyed getting to teach with her, and talk through our routines. She is very excited to join our great group of kids.
In the picture below, you can see Lilian closed her eyes, reached into our jar and chose Sofia K. as our Top Dog after Spring Break! We know Sofia will do an awesome job.
As always check out our classroom updates below. I sure have loved being with your children this year. I look forward to coming back to visit soon!
Spring Conferences Will Be Student-Led
Conferences this year will be student-led on April 7th and 8th. As you sign up for a time, please make sure it's a time when you and your child can attend. This will be a great time to see their academic growth, and also get to know Mrs. Work.
Please remember that teachers are very busy and these days are set aside for us to meet with you. Please do your best to attend on those days only, thanks.

My name is Shannon (Jack's mum) and I have the very fortunate job of helping to coordinate Mrs. Baker’s first grade class basket for the Spring fundraiser this year.
Some (or all) of you may be aware that Friday, April 22nd is the 2016 Oak Creek Spring Fundraiser - The Oak Creek PTA's largest annual fundraiser. The event features the 2016 Olympic Games, silent auction, food, entertainment, and other fun family activities.
Every year, each class comes up with a theme for its basket and seeks out donation items for the basket that align with that theme. The basket is then auctioned off in the silent auction with all proceeds going to the Oak Creek PTA. These proceeds are critical to students' success and enable Oak Creek Elementary to provide over 40 enrichment programs to students including: science, Art Literacy, music, field trips, and new equipment/technology.
This year, the theme for Mrs. Baker’s First Grade class basket is Arts & Crafts. We are looking for items such as (but not limited to):
• pipe cleaner
• craft kits
Attached is a photo to give you an idea of what we are trying to achieve.
With a combination of support from our classroom families and local businesses, we know we will end up with some great items! Please let me know if we can count on a specific donation item in the list above (or another item not on the list) from you or someone you know. Any and all items (big and small) are greatly appreciated and will help us to provide continuing enrichment for our children.
Understanding that there is rarely enough time in the day, if it's easier to give a cash donation, I'm happy to do the shopping for you. If a cash donation works better for you, please drop an envelope (labelled “spring fundraiser” and with my or Julie’s name on it) off with Mrs. Baker. When the purchase has been made, I'll provide you with an itemized receipt.
Because we need to take photos, organize items, and write descriptions of each basket in advance of the silent auction, all items must be in hand by April 8. Kindly drop any items off in the classroom and someone will collect them regularly.
Thank you in advance for considering donating to Oak Creek's Annual Spring Fundraiser.
If you have any questions, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org, call or text me at 669 900 3721.
Oak Creek First and Second graders invite you to an “informance,” a performance to showcase our learning in the music room. The theme is: Exploring World Cultures Through Songs and Games. Mrs. Baker’s class informance date is Friday, April 15, 2016 from 2:50- 3:10 pm. In the music room. Siblings are welcome. We hope you can come!
