Zaphney's summer
Especially made for Zaphney
Summer recommendations
Summer is a time to rest and relax but I also want to avoid the summer slide. The Primer students will be going into first grade with an extra year of school compared to their peers. I want to keep up the rigor by recommending some camps based on interest and need.
I researched some of the area private school camps and put together this list. I want you to have your child also reflect on their favorite Primer field trip. Many of the places we visited or who came to visit us offer summer camps ( Trinity River Audubon Center, Dallas Children's Theater, Dallas Zoo and Dallas Museum of Modern Art). You can also tie in local resources like SMU for summer camps as well.
Play-Well TEKnologies: Pre-engineering using Legos
Minecraft
Camp Invention
Camp Invention will be at the Upper Campus July 13-17. Register through ESD Summer Camps. This is a national camp so check the website as it might be offered in an area near you all this summer.
Summer Reading
Highland Park, UP and Dallas Library Summer Reading
Barnes and Noble Summer Reading
Chuck E. Cheese
Music
I would love for Zaphney to continue to build his passion of music. Perhaps he can attend a camp through his School of Rock or continue his lessons through the summer.
Keep up with math with reflex
No matter where you go, have Zaphney help you create a schedule. Set the goal of three Reflex sessions per week. This will help him ease into first grade when he starts in August.
First Grade Review Camp
OFF TO A GOOD START IN 1ST GRADE GRADE 1 Begin a great year of first grade this summer as you solidify your knowledge of the alphabet, strengthen your consonant and vowel sounds, and reinforce your reading and spelling skills. Using math manipulatives, you will solve logic problems and explore number sense, including place value, money, time and simple basic facts. You will be exposed to grammar, spelling and punctuation rules in your story writing. And, you will work on strengthening the development of your fine motor skills, including printing letters and numbers with appropriate pencil grip. Not just for Greenhill students, if you are going into the first grade, you are welcome! INSTRUCTOR: Mary Ellen Bourgeois, Greenhill School SCHEDULE: Aug 3
