A Note From Mr. Grant
Muldoon Families,
We have had a great start to the second quarter! Your children have been working very hard in the classroom. We appreciate the partnership you provide in ensuring your children are successful at school.
This time of year a healthy diet is important. “Make it easy for kids to choose healthy snacks by keeping fruits and vegetables on hand and ready to eat. Other good snacks include low-fat yogurt, peanut butter and celery, or whole-grain crackers and cheese. Serve lean meats and other good sources of protein, such as fish, eggs, beans, and nuts” (www.kidshealth.org). As a reminder, healthy snacks are appropriate for school. Please save candy, soda, and other sugary treats for home.
As always, during this time of year, the weather begins to change. Please make sure your students have dressed appropriately for the weather. Jackets are a must, as we go outside for recess every day that the temperature is above -10°.
Morning Recess starts at 8:30 - please do not send your children to the playground before this time. If you need to send your kids to school before 8:45 we have a CampFire morning program that starts at 7:00. Please call them for more info at 907-891-0718.
Please keep in mind that important instruction takes place throughout the school day, even during the last 30 minutes of the day. Please schedule appointments after 3:30 p.m. if at all possible. This will ensure your children are not missing pertinent information. Students will not be released after 3:00 p.m. unless it’s an absolute emergency.
Dismissal is a busy time of day. Please be patient, stay in your vehicle, and pull up in line before stopping to let your children in the car. Please pay attention to the teachers and staff on duty working to keep your children safe.
Warmest Regards,
Leroy Grant, Principal

Giving Thanks
Dear Families,
We are thankful!
As we prepare to take a short break from school for Thanksgiving, we want to express our gratitude to everyone who makes it possible for as many children/youth as possible to come to school every day, on time, ready to learn. We thank:
- Our students and families for making daily attendance a priority since they know the habit of attendance will help them do well in the classroom and eventually in a job;
- Our wonderful teachers, who pour their energy into making each classroom an exciting place for exploration and knowledge so children do not want to miss out on learning; and
- Our support staff and community volunteers, who provide the extra hands and attention our children/youth need.
We appreciate each one of you so much. We look forward to seeing you after the Thanksgiving holiday. We also hope you will keep in mind that school is closed on Thursday, November 25th, and reopens Monday, November 29th.
We especially appreciate everyone’s efforts to avoid taking extra days off during the Thanksgiving holiday. Just a few missed days here and there, even if they’re excused absences, can add up to a substantial amount of lost learning time and leave your child behind in school. This is as true in kindergarten as it is in high school. Just a reminder, a total of 9 or fewer absences in one school year is a great goal to help children stay in the good attendance range.
Return Library Books
Library Books come back each week. Please check with your child's teacher on what day they go to library class. Thank you for the support!

Tips for Reading at Home
Family & Student Resources
Safety - Be Bright & Be Seen
Families,
Please have conversations with your children reminding them to walk on designated sidewalks and cross at designated crosswalks on their way to school every day.
Having the appropriate reflective gear on is important on our dark winter mornings. Even wearing white or brighter colored clothes can help drivers to see your kids better. Drivers, please slow down on and around our school, follow the posted signs and put your phone away. Nothing on your phone is worth the risk that a student or staff member might be injured or worse.
i-Ready at Home
Students who have access to personal devices at home can log in and use i-Ready from home! i-Ready is a great way for your children to practice their math and reading skills while at home! Students can access i-Ready by logging into the Student Portal - found on the district website under "Student Login". You can click here to see if your device is compatible with i-Ready.

COVID testing at Muldoon
Hello Muldoon~
I'm so excited to let you know that ASD has new free COVID testing options IN MULDOON Elementary. This is perfect timing, as many of our community testing sites are very busy with fewer hours and days they are open.
This test is easy (nose swab or spit cup) and fast (results are texted that night, sometimes 24 hours). It is also accurate if you are sick or asymptomatic, which means we can test as often as you like to keep our community and schools healthy.
The first step is the hardest - registering (it asks a lot of questions), but you only have to register once. Create your account, by hovering your camera phone over the QR code. Or click on the picture to take you to the link.
Directions for Signing-Up Online:
-Select 'I don't have a QR code,' so you can create your own.
-It does ask for your insurance information, but you don't have to provide it if you don't want to.
-It asks for your social security number and license number, but you can type 0000 if you don't want to provide these. Same for your passport number, just type in zeros if you don't want to provide it.
-It asks you to take a photo of your ID and insurance cards, but if you aren't providing this you can take a photo of the floor.
-Be sure to save a photo/screenshot of your new QR code, so I can use it anytime you want to test.
Make Sure Your Kids are Immunized!

A Note from Ms. Foust - Muldoon's S.T.E.M. teacher
There have been a lot of amazing scientists and engineers in the STEAM room first quarter! STEM students built structures and practiced the Engineering Design Process. They conducted investigations to determine how friction and force impact movement. They tested their reflexes and questioned how using their different senses impacts reaction time. Students learned about kinetic and potential energy and created pinwheels to demonstrate energy transfer. Kindergarten and first-grade students learned about Alaskan animals, habitats, and life cycles. It has been a lot of fun working with all the wonderful students at Muldoon! Stay tuned for more fun in STEM next quarter!
