Mar Vista Parent Newsletter
Week of March 15, 2021
Thank you for supporting Mar Vista at the Friday Movie Night! It was great to see all the families and students back together again! I can't wait until all students are back on campus and things start to feel a little more normal. Big shout out to Victoria McCue for organizing the event and Julia Pursley for spreading the word and helping work the entrance! Thank you MVPs for bringing our community together! I look forward to more fun community building events!
Also, Monday 3/15 is Make Up Picture Day. If you were unable to make the previous Picture Days, you may come to the school between noon and 5:00 pm for another opportunity. These photos will be featured in our 20-21 Yearbook and will be uploaded into our student information system Synergy. More info on the yearbook is coming soon!
Over the next couple of weeks, we will continue to prepare for the return of students to campus. I know there are several questions about logistics, transportation and more, so be on the lookout for increased communication from me and the front office. By Monday, March 22, families will be informed of student cohort schedules and details about protocols, etc. Until then, please stay tuned to the information coming from Dr. Rodriguez. Also, remember that today (Sunday 3/14) is the last day before the parent survey closes. Please make sure you've responded so transportation and cohort assignments can be completed accurately. Here is the link to the survey: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScEJ_pe-CuIM9TkHwX5eLJzoeNSW9_y1qZSCOLNjsi1KBymfA/viewform
(We have heard from some that if your device has translation turned on, Mar Vista may read in the drop down list as "Sea View." Please choose Sea View if you don't see Mar Vista listed. Your child will still show up on our rosters).

If your child does not have a district Chromebook, it will be imperative that they have one as we begin state testing. We do have extra Chromebooks in the office but I recommend you call in advance just to be sure. We are due to begin the SBAC assessment in mid-April.
Thank you to everyone that has sent in pictures for the spirit days! This is one way we are trying to maintain connection and community, so it is appreciated. This week is wear green day. Students can wear their green outfits and send pictures to me to be featured in the Mar Vista News!
Students will be continuing Unit 6 in our language arts curriculum, Benchmark, this week.

They purchased Zearn for us and I have to say it has been a HUGE support for my math program. I also appreciate the $400 classroom funds because I have been purchasing chapter book sets for my class. I also really appreciate Ashley continuing on being treasurer with her full time job. -Miss Risa

Please note that families can pick up meals for their children for the seven days of the week on the one pick up day. Also, Second Harvest Food Bank distributes groceries during most weeks during these afternoon meal pick up times.
