Principal's Letter for June 2022
Principal’s Message – June
The principal’s message for this month is different from all other previous messages. I am using this message to say thank you to the teachers, staff, parents, and students for making this year truly memorable as we return back to life closer to pre-pandemic at SRTMS. From the first day, it has been an enjoyable and unpredictable ride. All stakeholders have contributed to the inspiring experience.
There were so many fun days of learning, friendships made, and changes that we all needed to adjust to. Through it, all stakeholders kept being positive, persevered, and the learning continued. It was truly a year unlike any other. Below are just a few accomplishments for the year:
1) Establishment of the student, self-tracking of standards in TK-5th and three out of five subject in middle school.
2) The continued use and expansion of the "Be the Joy" program
3) The complete implementation of the Second Step socio-emotional curriculum.
4) The continued use of multiple avenues of communication, including the establishment of the SRTMS Instagram page.
5) The return to a traditional school structure with added counseling supports.
One of the things know for sure is that we want the learning to continue over the summer. Here are some things that you can do with your child:
1) Reading is key. Spend at least 30 minutes a day reading with your child. Ask them questions about the story, ask them “what if” questions, and ask them to predict what happens next.
2) Create fun real-world activities that enforce skills – card games help with math strategies and strategic thinking; building with Legos helps fine motor coordination; encouraging your child to build something practicing measurement, reading skills, and promotes real-world experience.
3) Teach or try out a new sport for your child. This challenges them to incorporate new skills and develop their gross motor function.
I wish all the eighth-grade students success as they transition to high school. It was great to have a traditional ceremony once again and celebrate the students’ academic achievements. I know they will all be successful in their own way. It was a pleasure to get to know them better and watch them grow this year.
Again, thank you for a wonderful, challenging, and beautiful year. I’m blessed to lead and work at the best school in the Pleasant Valley School District.
Eagle Pride,
Mr. Borchard
