Life after Testing: Finish Strong!

This post from MiddleWeb by Susan Curtis, "Looking Ahead to the Last Weeks of School," has been updated, with many contributions from teachers across the country. Some teachers post a countdown to summer break as if they can't wait for the school year to be over, while some think, "I only have this many days left to get so much accomplished!"

May is a great time to try new things! You might check out tech tools like Gimkit* (featured in the Monday Minute two weeks ago), a "Genius Hour" type project, or take advantage of a free trial for a product you've been interested in but have not had time to try.

*BTW if you are "Nathan" and played the IMLEA Gimkit, please contact Susie Highley for a prize!

Launching an Inquiry Project? Here are Some Useful Tools

In case you are doing some type of project from now until the end of year, here are some tech tools you might find useful. This website, Educational Technology and Mobile Learning, has lots of useful stories, often with daily updates.

Important Newsletter Updates and A Request from Our President

The IMLEA print newsletter that was mailed recently had an error on the front page; the article that our president, Jessica Tubbs, wrote was not the one that was published. You can find the correct article in this electronic version of the newsletter. Our sincere apologies to Jessica.

In addition, she had requested that we incorporate a google form for you to submit comments and suggestions. "Have a question about how other middle schools run certain programs or deal with situations? Need some advice on curriculum ideas? Just need to reach out to someone else in the middle? Use this form and we will help!"

Interested in Meeting with Japanese Educators in Hawaii?

15 educators from Japan & 15 from the U.S. will travel to Hawaii in August, 2019 for a joint conference and collaboration on ICT (Information Communication Technology). The program, administered by Fulbright Japan and funded by the Japanese and U.S. governments, is fully-funded except for some meals. They even make the travel arrangements!
The program website has more information & the application. The deadline to apply is May 23, 2019. Teachers in grades 7-12 are eligible; while teachers are expected to incorporate the theme of "Space and Earth," applicants are not limited to math and science. The website gives many examples of different disciplines and projects that would work.
