Canton Newsletter

March 17th, 2023

Dear Families,

5 more school days until Spring Break we're almost there! On Friday, Mach 24th we will have an all-school Spring Assembly. If we raise $1,000.00 for our all-school fundraiser I'll be participating in the TikTok Dance challenge at the assembly. This will be a positive and energizing way to head into the break. I'll share pictures next week. This week's newsletter has information on the following:

  • Girls Soccer
  • The Panorama Survey
  • TikTok Fundraiser
  • April 4th Election Day

Have a great weekend!

We are Canton. We all believe. That we will succeed.

In Partnership,

Principal Rudden

Girls Soccer

Girls' soccer will start after spring break. You have one week to turn your paperwork in. All 7th and 8th-grade girls that would like to participate are welcome to get a packet to take home. Be sure to fill out all the information and bring it back next week. You do not need to get a physical in order to participate and you don't need to be a superstar either. All Canton girls are welcome.

Panorama Survey-March 20th

In case you missed this important message from Dr. Lance I've shared it below.

Dear U-46 Parents and Guardians,

Thank you to all those of you who have completed the 5Essentials Survey. Your voice matters and your completed survey will help our school teams better consider your feedback as they work to continually improve our climate and culture. We are writing to let you know that we are issuing a second survey - this one is only for students - between March 20 and March 24.

Our fourth annual Student Equity and Inclusion Survey asks 4th through 12th graders to tell us how well they feel included and represented in our U-46 schools. Their feedback will provide invaluable insights into their experiences and how to improve and adapt our district to better meet their needs. The survey asks essential questions about diversity and inclusion, cultural awareness and action, and our student’s sense of belonging. If a student doesn’t feel they have enough information to answer a question, they can skip the item altogether.

On March 20, students in 4th through 12th grade will receive an email with the survey link. The survey will be completely confidential. We are partnering with Panorama Education, an educational management company, to administer these surveys. You can read more about Panorama’s student privacy policy here. Please use the following links to learn more about the survey design and additional resources you can use to support your student before they take the survey.

We thank you in advance for your student’s participation. Their voice is important, and we value their input. If you have any questions or concerns about the survey administration, please don’t hesitate to contact us via Let’s Talk and visit our Student Equity and Inclusion Survey website for more information.

Sincerely,

Dr. Teresa A. Lance

Assistant Superintendent for Equity and Innovation

Tik Tok Fundraiser

Teacher & Staff Dance Challenge Fundraiser

Fundraiser: March 13th-March 24th

Spring Fundraiser:

Canton is holding a couple of fundraisers right now. Please choose whichever fundraiser you would like. The ultimate goal is to support our students regardless of the way in which you choose to show your support. We appreciate you and all that you do to support the Canton Community.

The teachers & Staff at Canton Middle School are raising money to financially support school-wide events and rewards, such as field trips, outside performances/guest speakers, and items for the Cougar Buck Store by performing a TikTok dance at the spring assembly on Friday, March 24th.

Students are able to donate during their lunch periods from March 13th to March 24th. For every monetary goal met on the thermometer

(image is below), we will add more teachers and staff to participate in the dance

Middle School Art Show

the Middle School Art Show started March 4 and is up until Apr 1. They have done some awesome work...we have 30 students with pieces in the exhibit and our very own Melina Castro's work was chosen for the flyer below. If you're in the area the show is at Elgin State Bank on the west side of Elgin.
Big picture

PTO Fundraiser

Canton Middle School is a school where student learning thrives and children feel good about the place they call their school. We believe that this is because of the incredible students that attend our school, the awesome staff who believe that relationships with students are key to optimal learning, and more importantly the incredible support of our families. We could not engage in the wonderful learning opportunities and the fun things we do here without your monetary support. If you would like to donate to a specific category please choose one or you can donate to the PTO and we will allocate the funds where they are needed most. Please know that no amount is too small. Your ongoing backing and support are both truly appreciated.

If you would prefer to send cash or a check with your student to school please make the check payable to Canton PTO and have them bring it to the office.
Once again thank you very much for your support. We truly appreciate you.

more.

Your donations will help pay for:

  • To support the general needs of the students
  • Year End Celebrations
  • The PAWS Store
  • Teacher Appreciation Week
  • Canton Beautification Mural

Bond Proposal

You can find additional information by clicking on the image above.

School District U-46 community members will vote on a zero-tax-rate-change bond proposal this spring. If voters approve, the bond proposal will fund the plan to replace and rebuild our oldest elementary schools, update elementary school buildings to support expanded preschool opportunities, and implement a true 6th through 8th-grade middle school model. The proposal will also address districtwide critical maintenance, safety, and security needs and improve equitable access to programs at more schools districtwide.

The District has a unique opportunity to implement these improvements without changing the tax rate residents currently pay. The bond proposal is on the ballot in the April 4 election. You can find more information at u-46.org/bondproposal and by watching this video.
