Ridgeview STEM Junior High
October 13, 2023
Principal's Message:
Hello Ridgeview Family,
The first grading period ended today, (Friday, October 13th). Students first quarter final grade will be available to view in Infinite Campus the week of October 16th.
Families please be reminded there is no school on Mon Oct 16th, as it is a parent/teacher conference day. Conferences will run from 7:00-2:00 pm. If you're interested but haven't signed up yet, please reach out to your students' teachers. Students will return to school bright and early on Tue Oct 17th for the start of the second grading period.
Honor Roll and Attendance rewards will be given to students for the first grading period very soon! Please watch for updates, as we love to celebrate our Ridgeview scholars!
Lastly, the school year is flying by. The holidays will be here before we know it. With that being said, our staff's opportunity to prepare our scholars for the spring assessment is quickly shrinking. The more often students are at school and on time, the more time we'll have to prepare them for what's coming up in the near future. We want to make sure every Ridgeview student is prepared and ready to go! Please be mindful of this. If your scholar has to be absent, please call the main office to let us know. We thank you in advance.
Thank you for your continued support of the Pickerington Schools!
Sheila Evans, Principal
Ridgeview STEM Junior High School

ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY for student technology.
This video about the Acceptable Use Policy offers some helpful information and reminders about student technology usage when it comes to school devices and accounts. It is important to know that while the school is able to monitor usage on its devices outside of the school day, we depend on families to set restrictions on their home wifi and internet as appropriate for their situation. It is our goal to help students make good choices and be engaged as good citizens in our communities and online. Please have conversations with your students about what you feel is appropriate online content and usage (both the types of things they do online as well as the amount of time spent online).
Have a great weekend.

Goodnight Sweetheart...Teens & Sleep
Do you remember when you kids were babies? We were so good at making sure they were on a schedule because we would pay the price when they would get cranky because they were tired. Why then is it so difficult to keep that going when they are teens? There are many answers to this question, some of which include things we have all heard of like too much caffeine late in the day or screen time before bed. However, this video Common Sleep Trends for Teens (6:44 min.) provides a few more suggestions as to why teens, or really anyone, might struggle with sleep and it gives some good suggestions for improving sleep.
A NOTE FROM THE NURSE
In the event your child needs to take prescription medication while at school, please be sure to have the Request for administration of prescription medication by school personnel (pdf) form or completed by the child’s physician and parents. Forms are available in the school office and on the website.
Nonprescription medication such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen, and cough drops may be administered to students if the parent/guardian sends in the medication (in original container) along with written permission for the medication to be given. Dosages cannot exceed the manufacturer’s recommendations for age and weight. (i.e., We cannot administer medication to children under 12 if the label says: “Do not administer to children under 12, except under the direction of a physician.” We need to have a note from the doctor in order to give a dose of medication that is different than the dose stated on the bottle.) All medications, prescription and non-prescription, must be sent in the original container.

HELP Make Our Schools Safer
The Ohio Department of Education and the Ohio Department of Public Safety have launched the SaferOH tip line that will accept both calls and texts 24 hours a day.
This tip line allows students and adults to anonymously share information with school officials and law enforcement about threats to student safety—whether that involves a threatened mass incident or harm to a single student.
Every tip can remain anonymous. School safety analysts may ask for additional information, but the caller can remain secret or leave his or her contact information for later follow-up.
Calls or texts to 844-SaferOH (844-723-3764) are answered by analysts in the Ohio Homeland Security’s Threat Assessment and Prevention (TAP) Unit. When action is needed, the TAP Unit immediately forwards information to Pickerington Schools, local law enforcement agencies, and others, if necessary.
