Life Together

Maybe it’s because of my decision to retire this year, or maybe it’s because the year is drawing to a close, I’m not sure, but I have really been drawn to the idea of our Nesbit “Community”. I have had the experience of being a part of this “community” for the past 12 years. I am not referring to things outside of our school, but to the people who have chosen to spend the year together as our Nesbit staff. Although I have seen much going and coming over the years, thus changing the look of our Nesbit group, “community” still remains a beautiful thing! As we open ourselves to others, perhaps even very different from us, we broaden our perspectives and have the opportunity to grow.

Many of us have gone through heartache through some personal experience while being a part of this Nesbit Community. At times, there has been great joy because of a life event such as a birth or wedding. As I reflect on just this year, or even recent weeks, I am aware of how our Nesbit Community pulls together to accomplish overwhelming tasks. Mary Jahntz and Susan Jones haven’t had to beg “too much” for extra help with the GMAS. We have just seen a job to be done, and we have done it! Over and over again through our “Sunshine” activities, I have seen friends go beyond their personal comfort zones and responsibilities, to help with something that needs to be done. An example was shown to me today, as I watched Kim McCrear and AnnMarie Jackson making table decorations for LaShawn’s shower. Neither of them felt creativity was their strength, but stepped up to the plate when Marina Midence asked for help. It was beautiful!

A final thought along this spending life together idea is that as the year draws to a close, some of us will be making changes that will put us in another “community”. My prayer is that you will find, as you reflect on this year, that despite something negative you may have experienced, “community” is a beautiful thing. Sometimes it even heals and makes us better!

Please remember Kim McCrear’s mother, as she is having some serious health issues. Wednesday Alexander’s dear friend is dealing with cancer. Please keep her in your prayers.
