MARCH 2019
A MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL WILLIAMS
Hello Skyhawk Families!
March often means the start of spring in many areas, but as I am typing this letter, I am watching snowflakes swirl around outside my window. Winter is definitely doing a good job of hanging on this year! Here’s to spring finally breaking through and to the new beginnings that it brings!
Speaking of new beginnings, March is also the time in the school year when we really start to look at next year. For our 8th graders, that means leaving Skyridge and moving onto high school. This can be an exciting, but scary time, especially for the parents. We will do our best to keep you updated on all of the happenings and make you aware of the options that await your students at any of the three high schools in the Camas School District. Keep checking our website, as well as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for more updates.
For our 6th and 7th graders, this is the time of year that some students challenge for a different math placement. As you may be aware, we are looking at our math pathways as a district to make sure we are meeting the needs of our students. In math, it is always a balancing act between keeping our students challenged and making sure that they are not moving too quickly. We want to make sure that they will be prepared for the math that awaits them in future years, which means a solid math base built in middle school. For that reason, we look at our program every few years to make sure what we are doing is beneficial to all students. For that reason, we are holding on our math challenge process at this point until we have a better picture from the committee examining current practices. We will keep you updated on the process, as we know more.
There is a lot happening at Skyridge over the next few months as we begin the process of wrapping up one year and looking forward to the next one. Please remember that May is a big month at school with Smarter Balanced Testing, so if you are planning a wonderful family vacation, please try to avoid pulling your students out for extended periods during that month. Finally, mark your calendars for April 26 and 27 so you do not miss our school musical, The Lion King. I have popped into rehearsals this week and I know it will be a great show.
As always, please contact us in the office if we can help in any way.
Go Skyhawks!
