Bobcat Highlights

AVID Demonstration Re-Validation

In 2014, the Bedichek AVID program was awarded the highest recognition obtainable. This year Bedichek Middle School has done it again. In October, thanks to the hard work of all our staff, Bedichek was awarded National Demonstration status, showing that the Bedichek community is committed to preparing ALL students for college opportunities.

Tacos Anyone?

Last year, Janett Macias-Lopez and Cierra Salazar competed in the Diced and Sliced Cooking Competition against six local teams. The girls won! Now their recipe is used on the menu across AISD.

Bedichek vs. Fulmore

Two years after Bedichek first opened its doors a rivalry started against the Fulmore Falcons. In 1977, Bedichek and Fulmore began to compete for the famous football trophy. Bobcats held onto it for the first two years before it started to go back and forth between the two Austin schools. In 2000, Fulmore won 12-8 then we tied 12-12 in 2001, leaving the trophy at Fulmore. It has been 17 years since we last played Fulmore, and the Bedichek Bobcats fought hard to bring the trophy home. The last time the Bobcats had the trophy was in 1999. Way to go Bobcats!

Attendance Matters

Did you know that missing just 10% of the school year, the equivalent to 2 days a month, can negatively impact your child's learning? It's important that they are present and at school on time.

Classroom Corner

Einstein 7th and 8th graders trekked down to A&M University - Galveston to learn about Marine Biology. Students boarded a Research Vessel to catch and learn about marine life living in the local ecosystem. Students then participated in a dissection of a dogfish shark that was by-catch from the nearby fisherman.
Seventh-grade AVID students learned all about the Aggie Pride by touring the A&M University campus. Students even got to walk out onto the football field. That's a big HOWDY Y'ALL!
Sixth-grade AVID students visited the Austin Community College Automotive Technology Department. VROOOOMMMM!

Career Speaker Series

This year GEAR UP and AVID are working together to bring career professionals to our campus to discuss what they do, how they got there, and to give advice to our students. In September, we had Dr. Patel, Dentist and owner of Kidz Dental, share with us all about dentistry and careers in health science (pictured above). In October, we had Mrs. Sabrina Phillips, Blanton Museum Educator, share how sometimes your career is not a one-track destination (pictured below). It is, in fact, an adventure! Join us in November to hear from a Pharmacist! Thank you to our community for your help in inspiring our learners. If you would like to serve as a guest speaker in this series, we would love to have you! Email Annette.Gutierrez@austinisd.org or Danielle.Sanchez@austinisd.org
