Mrs. Ewald’s and Mrs. Fowler’s Reading and Language Arts
In ELA class next week, we will be continuing Unit 1 ¨Generations¨. We are continuing our study of the two stories “Simple Act” and “from Invisible Thread.” with Lauras and Maurices relationship and how both generations learned from each other. We will analyze the way the two authors present information about the same topic using an explanatory essay.
Mrs. Boyer's Reading Advancement Program
The students are doing an amazing job using our reading program, Achieve 3000. They took their initial LevelSet, which placed them at their appropriate reading level. They have completed three reading assignments on there and are scoring great. Ask your student to show you the program!
Next week, we will continue reading about the need for thrill. The skills we are going to focus on will be sequencing and deciphering between facts and opinions. This will help us to analyze the texts at a higher level of thinking. I am so proud of how hard they are working in RAP.
MATH
Math students successfully completed their first CFAs this week! Now is the push through the second half of our Topic on Rational Numbers towards our first CSA which will be in two weeks. Next week our focus will be on Multiplying/Dividing Integers and Rational Numbers.
SOCIAL STUDIES
This week we finished our notes for Chapter 2. We took a quiz (CFA) on Wednesday, be sure to check your student’s grade on that assessment. We will be writing an essay next week answering our essential question, “Why did Europeans explore and establish settlements in the Americas?” This will be our first summative grade.
SCIENCE
We have finished up our first unit on the Human Microbiome and will have a summative on Tuesday, September 20. After our test, we will start a mini-unit on microscopes. This is usually one of the students’ favorite units of the year since we not only learn about the history and parts of microscopes, but they will also have the opportunity to use microscopes to view several specimens. It is a pretty engaging couple weeks for the students.
