A letter from your Principals!
Hi Schlegel Families!
Our teachers are sharing stories with us about the ways they are connecting with your child(ren). As you might imagine, the reflections are filled with many emotions! Hopefully, the different ways the teachers are connecting with your child has brought your child some comfort.
This was shared with us last week-it gives us all a perspective to keep in mind as we move forward for as long as this takes:
"Just to be clear, starting April 6th we will be "Emergency Remote Teaching", not e-learning, not on-line learning, not any other wonderfully tech-savvy and trendy name people choose to give it. We are hastily throwing together an imperfect system meant to provide basic online support to a population that isn't 100%ready, willing or able to participate. That's not online learning. Online courses are meant for secondary schools and above. They are meticulously planned and have student populations that are ready, willing, and able to meet the criteria, not limited to academic ability but also technological competence and availability. Remember that as some of you critique the content, availability, and delivery of this program and as some of you say that "you guess e-learning wasn't as big of a problem as those teachers made it since we're doing it now." THIS. IS. NOT. ONLINE. LEARNING. This is an emergency reaction to a pandemic to try and restore some semblance of normalcy. Will it be normal? NO. Will it be easy? NO. So go easy on your kids if they don't get it, go easy on yourself if you don't get it, go easy on the teachers if it's not working 100%. We're all just doing our best. "
We would LOVE to hear the positive experiences your child is having due to the outreach from the Schlegel Staff! We would enjoy sharing these kudos with the staff. Take a picture or write a note and email it to us. Let's all keep looking for the positives in each day!
ABOVE you will see a “button” titled Schlegel Home School Connection. Please click on this button to find resources and activities outlined by the Schlegel Staff. We have been working with the staff on this via technology. Teachers want to connect with students and will continue to create resources as we continue to stay home.
