Principal Update - October 2016
Week of Respect
OHES students have been introduced to the concept of being a Bucket Filler. The "invisible" bucket that we all carry represents our emotional self. When our buckets are full we feel more confident, calm and friendly. When our buckets are overflowing we experience intense happiness that can spread to those around us.
Students also learned how they can earn "High Fives" and lend a helping hand to others. Mrs. Dudley and I enjoyed reading the book The Legend of Spookly the Square Pumpkin to the children... a fun fall story with a message that reminds us of how we are all unique. More information on Character Education and the monthly pillars will be shared by the guidance counselors and your child's teacher. Thank you for reinforcing these important character traits with your children.
Warm regards,
Mrs. Scotti

Tips for Parents
October Events at OHES
Our annual Scholastic Book Fair sponsored by the PTA was also a huge hit with the students. The Family Night held on October 7 was very successful and we are grateful to the many volunteers who contributed time to support this event.
Picture days took place this week and many volunteers were on hand to make sure the little ones looked their best for the cameras! The students are looking forward to visits from the Fire Department during Fire Prevention Week at the end of the month and Halloween festivities.
Halloween Parades and Parties
Halloween Parades will take place on Monday, October 31 at 10:00 am and 2:15 pm. Classroom teachers will inform parents if their class is participating in the morning or afternoon parade. Room parents will be in contact regarding classroom parties. Please remember to park in the main parking lot as the parade will take place in the bus lane in front of the school. Information will be posted on our school website.
Costumes
Please follow these guidelines for students' costumes:
- Costumes should be kept simple
- Students should not bring any "extras" like wands, swords, or other handheld items
- Students should be able to put on and take off their own costumes
- Students should not wear masks that hinder their vision or costumes that hinder movement while participating in the parade
- Any face painting should be kept to a minimum
