LEAD LEARNER HIGHLIGHTS

KP Families,

Although the Fall season isn't sure if it wants to arrive, we are moving through the first quarter of the school year. Almost all of our clubs are up and running. We hope that your child has found something of interest to join. If not, please review the activities list (click here) and encourage their involvement.

We've had another amazing week of learning, and I hope that you've connected with your child's team and have a clear sense of what they are learning and have had opportunities to talk with them about their learning and progress. Teams are starting to send out invitations for our fall conferences which are student-led. This is an opportunity for students to take center stage in discussing their progress and their goals moving forward.

Please be sure to take a look at the announcements below for our upcoming Color Run, the lost and found table, Nurse news, and community events around the corner.

School News

While it is safest to drop off students in the back, we understand that some find it convenient to drop off students on King Philip Drive. However, we want to remind people that SAFETY is of utmost importance. King Philip Drive is very busy, and while there are no signs yet forbidding U-Turns, we are pleading with drivers to refrain from making UTurns during this very busy time as it creates issues of safety for both drivers and pedestrians.

Thank You for your cooperation.

Important Message from our School Nurse Regarding: Physical Forms/Immunizations

We are still missing many of the 7th Grade Physical Forms and Immunization Forms required by the State of Connecticut.

Please forward the completed health information ASAP or call the school nurse at

860-929-5260.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter!

Lost but not found!

Attention Parents: Please encourage your student to check our lost and found table located in our small cafeteria as soon as possible. On October 23 any items still in our lost and found will be donated. We appreciate your help.

COLOR RUN - October 20th -- Mark Your Calendar

This year's color run is right around the corner. Instead of a PTO Pledge drive and a KP Fall Fundraiser, the school and the PTO have joined together for two large fundraisers - one in the fall and one fundraiser in the spring. The KP Color Run and Fall Fest is an opportunity to bring our community together while raising support for our school. However, we need your help to make it successful. Please contact Brendan Smith (brendan_smith@whps.org) or PTO President Cheri Green Bramble (bramble29@hotmail.com )to volunteer your time or a snack donation

  • Who can attend? Siblings and families are encouraged and invited to join
  • Purpose of the fundraiser: All the funds raised go to support student learning with this fall's focus on technology updates and flexible seating options for classrooms and more depending on our proceeds.
  • Incentives: There are a ton of student incentives with a combination of individual and group (MA and Team Incentives). There is also a rumor about the principal/lead learner dying her hair blue for a month and staff members sleeping on the roof.

Public Act 16-189

We believe that it is vital for all students in West Hartford Public Schools to be able to efficiently and effectively use digital tools that empower them in all phases of the learning process, including research, problem solving, content creation, communication, and collaboration. We also believe that we must be committed at all times to protecting students' privacy and providing them with a powerful and safe educational experience. To that end, the West Hartford Public Schools follow the legal requirements of Public Act 16-189 to promote the safety and security of all students and staff.

In compliance with Connecticut State Law, we update online programs used within the district that house student data. The programs may be used district-wide, in a very small number of classrooms, or with individual students. The list will be updated each time the district enters into a new contract where student data is housed. For more information on the specifics of Public Act 16-189 and updates of vendor agreements, visit www.whps.org/pa189."
