Monthly Update on CFAUSD Board of Education Activities
Purpose
October 25, 2022 Regular Board Meeting
CFAUSD Budget Hearing
Chad Trowbridge, Executive Director of Finance & Operations, presented the 2022-23 Budget to the Board of Education and general public; it is another balanced budget and CFAUSD constituents will experience a reduction in their tax rate - from $7.20/$1000 of property value to $6.08 or a reduction of 15.61% (pg. 46) and was approved by the Board as presented.
Student Representative Report
Hailey Rykal, Student Representative, had a chance to visit with students at the elementary schools this month. Some students shared that they are excited about the new MAPE schedule that offers more PE days each week. Students also shared that implementation of the new Wit & Wisdom curriculum is challenging and students are adjusting to the return of academic rigor, as the program has increased the amount of class time dedicated to ELA each day. A student advisory committee is in the process of being formed, so Hailey plans to provide feedback from the middle school at the November meeting. Hailey reported that the high school’s fall sports season is coming to an end, but the volleyball team will play in the second round of playoffs on Thursday, October 27, 2022. An anonymous donor has donated 75 tickets for students to attend the playoff game in Hudson. Hailey also shared that over 1,000 students attended the Homecoming Dance this year and students had a great time participating in the Homecoming events that took place; click here for the detailed report.

Southview Elementary School
Sara Denure, Southview Principal, and Ellen Reilly, Family Support and Resource Coordinator, presented a PowerPoint titled Southview Elementary School: Future Ready Pillar. Principal Denure and Ms. Reilly shared how staff members are working together to implement an attendance project that was developed by the Family Resource Coordinator and Elementary Principals; click here for the entire report.
Career & Technology Education Update
Laura Bushendorf, Career and Technology Education Coordinator, presented a powerpoint titled Youth Apprenticeship in the CFAUSD. Ms. Bushendorf shared what the Youth Apprenticeship program entails, which areas of work-based learning are offered, and YA data of the past two years. Andy Olson, a 2022 Chi-Hi Graduate, and Mallory Colle, a senior at Chi-Hi, shared their YA experiences. Both students are involved in the Welding YA program; click here for the entire report.

Jeff Holmes, Superintendent, provided an overview of the OE-2 Strategic Planning monitoring report; the Board agreed that the district is in compliance on monitoring report OE-2 Strategic Planning; click here for a copy of the report.

Construction Projects Complete 2021-2022 and 5 Year Projection of Capital Projects
Randy Knowlton, Director of Buildings, Grounds and Safety, provided a report of the construction projects completed during the 2021-2022 school year and a projection of capital projects for the next five years.
Chad Trowbridge, Executive Director of Business Services & Finance, gave an overview of the current enrollment numbers; particularly 3rd Friday Count.
Possible Cardinal Healthy Clinic Expansion
Michelle Golden, Executive Director of Human Resources and Public Relations, shared a presentation on current knowns about a potential Cardinal Healthy Clinic Expansion; the Board was provided with information about clinic usage, financial considerations, and opportunity for growth; once more information is gathered and firmer numbers are established, it will be brought back to the Board for their consideration.
