Walker Elementary
Week of February 22-26, 2021
Dear Walker Families,
Dear Parents,
Thank you so much for all of your support and encouragement as we were remote learning this week. We look forward to having your child back in the building next week, we hope that the time spent at home this week provided your family time to reconnect. Here is a quick summary of what’s included in this week's newsletter:
ELPA 21 Testing - We will continue ELPA 21 testing next week for our students who are acquiring English as a second language.
Student-Led Conferences - Student-led conferences are the week of March 1st-4th. Most conferences will be happening on our two late nights which are Monday and Tuesday of that week. If you need to change your time, please call the office or contact your child's teacher.
Kindergarten Registration - Kindergarten registration begins on March 1st. If you know of a family that will have a child turning 5 on or before August 1st, please share this information with them. Registration will be on-line.
Pre-K - Our Springdale pre-K program is enrolling now for paid spots. These spots are for families that do not meet state requirements for free pre-K.

Spring Break is March 22-26th
Yearbook Orders - If you have not yet ordered a yearbook, you can do so online. Information is linked below.
Counselor's Corner - Mrs. Waterman, our school counselor, has some tips to help your child be successful in elementary school.
Recycled Bench - We are still collecting containers to earn a recycled bench for our playground.
Masks - Don't forget to have your child wear a mask or a buff to school each day. Also, we would like for all students to carry extra face coverings in their backpacks so they can switch out during the day if needed.
A Message from Mrs. Waterman: Ways to Help Your Child Succeed During Elementary School
Elementary school is the start of great beginnings. It is important that your student builds strong foundations for the future during this time. You can actually help your child become more successful during their school-age years. I read an article at https://kidshealth.org titled “10 Ways to Help Your Child Succeed in Elementary School”. This article gave 10 great tips for parents to help them support their children’s needs during such crucial years of school.
The article gives these helpful hints:
1. Make sure you attend your child’s parent-teacher conferences.
2. Visit the school website and the school when you are able.
3. Be supportive of work that is being sent home.
4. Your child should be sent to school prepared and ready to learn.
5. Help your child learn skills that will help keep them organized.
6. Support and encourage good study habits.
7. Teach your child to be respectful of school rules and expectations.
8. Be involved at your students’ school.
9. Make sure your student is attending school regularly.
10. Listen to your child. Ask them about their day.
I feel like these are good suggestions for any age student that you may have. Enjoy your time with your child! They grow up way too fast!
