Message from Dr. Burns!
May 18, 2020
Dear KMS Families,
Greeting to all! This week at KMS students and faculty will be very busy.
In order to be able to have a good understanding about what students have learned during distance learning, teachers will be giving assessments starting this week and through to the end of the month. While we always remind students to review their work, these assessments are a normal part of our days, and teachers will be clear about what they will be assessing. Students will be taking the Star Assessment for reading as well as 7th and 8th grade math. 6th graders will be taking the iReady assessment for math. In science and social studies, teachers have worked together to create common assessments.
On Wednesday, teachers will be working together during Professional Development day - so there will be no school for students.
On Friday is a Virtual Student Support Day, where many students will be invited to participate in small group or individual meetings. Teachers will email invited students and families to let all know who must attend.
Please take a look at your students progress in Aspen. If you are unable to access your students account, please email: portal@bwrsd.org
Have a great week!
Dr. Burns

BWRSD Online Tech Support for Families
Please continue to email BWRSDTech@BWRSD.org for support during this time of Distance Learning. The email account is accessible 24 hours per day, and you can expect a response within 1 school day. The most common issue for not being able to access apps such as STEMscopes is that they may not be going in through CLEVER or that families need to have students login to the Chrome browser with their BWRSD credentials. Here are directions.
If you have a broken device please email BWRSDTech@bwrsd.org.

May is National Water Safety Month
CLICK ON THE IMAGE TO THE RIGHT FOR: FACTS ABOUT CHILDHOOD DROWNING
Between 2015 and 2018, 3,923 children and adolescents died from drowning. Drowning is the leading cause of unintentional death for children ages 1-4 and a leading cause of death among teens. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission found 60% of children under 5 were not expected to be in or around the pool when they drowned. Measures can be taken to prevent children from drowning. With children spending more time at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the summer season upon us, promoting water safety is critically important.
