The Leader In Me Update

It has been an exciting time for celebrating great leadership at Richlands Primary. Our school-wide goal is that every student will participate in a leadership role by the end of the school year. Every quarter, seven students from each class are selected by teachers to receive Leader in Me awards. Student’s faces shined with enthusiasm as they were recognized for demonstrating leadership qualities.

We also finished our weekly focus on each habit. During the first grading period students were immersed in expectations and vocabulary. We celebrated our learning by having a Leader in Me pep rally with Richlands High School. The RHS band, color guard, cheerleaders, and football players came to cheer us on and showcase great leadership role models.

Now we are digging deeper into each Habit by focusing on one per month. Ask your child about Habit 1: Being Proactive or Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind.

From the desk of Mrs. Hartley, Community Leadership Class.....

Exciting things have been taking place in Community Leadership! We have moved from the stage to a classroom. It has been a fairly easy transition. Students and myself are happy to be in an actual classroom! In our Community Leadership classes, we have been focusing on Habit 2, Begin with the End in Mind. Since Habit 2 is learning to set goals, we will conclude our study with this habit by making New Year Resolutions for 2018. Once we return from our break, we will begin with Habit 3, Put First Things First. Students will learn what it means to prioritize and that leaders organize and execute around their priorities. Habit 3 also encourages students to focus their time on who they are and who they want to be. They will also learn how setting goals now will help prepare them for future roles. As always, we have lots of "learning fun" in Community Leadership, as we are growing Leaders!

Don't forget our RPS BRIDGE will be in trailer 609 for classes to shop from the Penguin Patch shop until Friday, December 8th! There are lots of goodies for family and friends! Thank you to the volunteers who are helping our BRIDGE out with this.

Please be sure to check with your child's teacher to see what items might be needed for replenishing in their classroom. Please also think about their specials teachers as well (i.e. Art, Music, Spanish, PE, Computers, Community Leadership, Media). We know everyone will be thankful for anything donated.

Items to think about are:

  • Hand sanitizer
  • Tissues
  • Wipes
  • Dry Erase Markers, crayons, pencils
  • Copy Paper

At this time, popcorn will not be available during December due to the Penguin Patch obligations by RPS BRIDGE. We will announce after the winter break when/if popcorn Fridays will resume.
