GRADES, GRADUATION, IMMUNIZATION, CHROMEBOOKS AND MORE
FCS END OF YEAR GRADING AND STUDENT PROMOTION
Elementary Students-Grades K-5
Students in grades K-5 will not receive a final grade.
Teachers will provide end-of-year feedback for students/families based on their learning this school year. Franklin County Schools will determine the format for this feedback.
Academic and social/emotional feedback will be used to help students transition into the new school year.
Middle School Students-Grades 6-8
Students in grades 6-8 will receive a final course grade of PC19(Pass) or WC19(Withdraw).
Teachers will provide year-end written feedback for students based on their learning this year. Franklin County Schools will determine the format for this feedback.
Academic and social/emotional feedback will be used to help students transition into the new school year.
WC19 does not mean that the child failed the course and does not mean that the child will be retained in their current grade level. WC19 means that there is a lack of evidence to show that the student has mastered the content for the course.
Middle school students enrolled in Math I or Spanish I will receive credit for the course but the final grade will not be counted in their high school GPA.
High School Students-Grades 9-11
Students in grades 9-11 and non-graduating seniors will choose how each final course grade will appear on their transcript for those courses in which they are currently enrolled (yearlong and semester).
Option 1:
Report the numeric grade, their highest grade that represents either the student’s learning through March 13 or as improved through the semester as remote learning.
Students will receive course credit.
The numeric grade and quality point will be calculated in the student’s GPA.
Option 2:
Report a PC19 or WC19.
Students opting to receive PC19 will receive course credit.
PC19 or WC19 will not impact GPA.
WC19 receives no course credit but students may take advantage of future credit recovery or repeating the course for credit.
End-of-Grade and End-of Course Testing
The State of North Carolina applied for a testing waiver from the U.S. Department of Education. For the 2019-2020 school year, no end-of-grade or end-of-course tests will be administered. High school students enrolled in Advanced Placement courses will take the AP exams remotely on the originally scheduled exam day.
Student Promotion and Retention
The promotion and retention of students will remain the decision of the principal and staff.
NOTE: Grading for graduating seniors will follow the policy adopted by the State Board of Education on March 27, 2020. This guidance was sent to all senior families on April 13, 2020.

Please contact your healthcare provider now for an appointment. Doctors offices continue to vaccinate during this time, and have taken precautions to make sure that each visitor is safe.
School nurses have reviewed immunization records for all current students, so if you are unsure if your student has already been vaccinated or if you have any other questions concerning vaccination, please contact our school nurse by email at jessicahuffman@fcschools.net.
