Family Engagement Policy and School - Family Compact
Did you know there are plans written at the school and district level that contain goals, strategies, and funding? The district's plan is called the LCAP (Local Control Accountability Plan) and the school's plan is called the SPSA (Single Plan for Student Achievement). Staff and families contribute to reviewing, revising, and evaluating these plans and Laurel's team voted to approve our SPSA last week. BOTH of the documents focus on Meaningful Family Engagement for Goal 3.
Each year, the School Site Council also revises the School-Family Compact and Family Engagement Policy that detail how we involve and engage families at Laurel. Check out our 2023-2024 Compact and Policy by clicking the buttons below.
Rollin' from the Heart
Beginning Wednesday, November 29, Laurel Elementary is partnering with Rollin' from the Heart to provide youth skateboarding opportunities Wednesdays after school from 1:30 - 3:30 for a period of 8-10 weeks. Interested students and families in grades 2 - 5, please contact Mr. Al Sega at (760) 966-4225 to get a waiver. We anticipate the program filling up quickly, so contact him ASAP!
Student Pick-Up and Drop-Off
Together we can keep all students safe!
Blackboard Messaging
OUSD messages families using a platform called Blackboard Communications. This allows teachers and staff to send an email, text or voice message directly to the email address or phone number you have listed in Aeries. It’s important that all the adults in your student’s life have updated contact information in Aeries so everyone can receive important messages from your student’s school.
You no longer need to download any third party apps to receive messages from OUSD. The only district supported app that families should download is the OUSD app.Check your email or spam folder. Your login and password for the app have been sent from
noreply@parentlink.net to the email you have in Aeries.
Volunteer Guidelines
- Most volunteer opportunities fall into "Level 1" for the volunteer process because you will be working in partnership with a certificated or classified staff member and not supervising students independently.
- If you will be working with students independently at any time, you must participate in a more comprehensive process for "Level 2".
- Please contact your child's teacher first to discuss days and times for volunteering. Each classroom has different needs and volunteer opportunities.
- The teacher will then contact the front office to let us know to expect you.
- In the front office, you can sign the volunteer agreement and log in and out via the Raptor security system. Please allow extra time for this before your volunteer time.
Chain of Communication
We know there are times when issues come up that need to be resolved. OUSD has created a chain of communication that allows for an efficient resolution process. This is now located on our school’s website under “Our School” called Chain of Communication.
