Message From The Principal
Dear Stoller Families -
I know a lot of families are still deciding between CDL and Hybrid, and I want to provide some additional details about what Hybrid and CDL will look like at Stoller to help inform your decision.
Our bell schedule will change for all students, both in CDL and Hybrid, to follow the district start and end times for middle schools. Classes will start at 10:00 and end at 3:50, with each class being approximately 60 minutes. Students will participate online and in person concurrently.
We are working hard to make sure our building is safe and ready for students who select Hybrid. Students and staff will be expected to wear masks on campus, and structures will be in place to help maintain social distancing. Our goal is to provide a safe and engaging space for our students. There will be at least 35 square feet per person in all of our classrooms.
Students spend most of the day in a single cohort of about 12 - 18 students. In PE or Electives they will interact with another cohort of students.
Students will remain in one classroom for the majority of the day, and teachers will rotate into that classroom to provide instruction in the various subjects. This reduces student passing time in the halls. Students will interact with less than 100 other students each week, as required by the Oregon Health Authority. Classrooms will be set up with desks spaced to provide for social distancing. Most classrooms will have no more than 16 students in them. In each cohort, students will be assigned a desk. The desks will be sanitized between cohorts.
Students will eat in the cafeteria with their own cohorts. Up to three other cohorts will also share the cafeteria. This combined group will have supervised recess before or after lunch in which they will be able to enjoy being outside and encouraged to be socially distanced.
We will continue to offer our current electives, including band. The details of what band will look like are still being formed by BSD to optimize student and staff safety. PE will be outside as much as possible, and students will not be changing clothes for PE.
Instruction will include tasks that are combined for all students in CDL and Hybrid, and also activities that are specific to the students online or at school.
There are many logistics that are being finalized in collaboration with our teaching staff. If you have questions that were not answered here, I highly recommend attending the district Q&A session on March 10th or reaching out to the Stoller front office directly, 503-356-2680.
I will be participating in this Q&A to help answer questions as they relate to all district middle schools. Please mark your calendars and join if you are able to.
Due to our school size, zoom capacity, and conflicting schedules for families, I will not host one specifically for Stoller. However, I will make a video to highlight and outline hybrid at Stoller and try to answer anticipated FAQs.
In the meantime, please email any questions you may have to me veronica_galvan@beaverton.k12.or.us or my assistant, cristina_guajardo@beaverton.k12.or.us so that I can make sure I can try to answer them in the video.
I would like to extend a big thank you to our incredible PTO. They provided lunch for our amazing classified staff who are in the building supporting our LIPI students. In addition, their generously provided all staff with gift cards during the holiday season. Thank you all for supporting our PTO who in turn support Stoller students and staff!

Make your selection for CDL or In-Person Hybrid
A message was sent by District on Monday, March 1st that was titled "Secondary Hybrid Survey". This is your chance to make your choice for your student to shift to In-Person Hybrid or stay in CDL.
To make your choice, go to our Return to In-Person Instruction webpage and follow the instructions.
All decisions must be made by March 15. If you don’t indicate a choice, your student automatically will remain in CDL.
*For the full message released on Monday which includes FAQ's and dates and times for Q&A sessions please click this link.
*You can also visit the Return to In-Person Instruction webpage for information on the Hybrid model, FAQ's and much more.

AVID Applications are now available!
AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination and is an elective class designed to prepare you for admission to a four-year university after graduation from high school. AVID is for students who want to go to college and are willing to work hard to get there.
Who is an AVID student?
AVID students selected for the AVID elective class are students in the academic middle, capable of completing a college preparatory path with support. These students often are not realizing their full potential academically. In the identification process a number of criteria are considered, including:
Grades (2.0 – 3.5 GPA)
Proficiency or on the “bubble” of standardized tests
Good attendance and behavior
Desire and determination
First in family to attend college
Historically underrepresented in 4-year colleges and universities
Economically disadvantaged
Potential to succeed but may have special circumstances that may hinder their achievement
To apply to become an AVID student, click here for more information about the AVID application process.
Current 6th and 7th graders - Applications are due by March 19th
*Current 6th and 7th grade AVID students you do not need to complete the full application again. Your AVID teacher will share with you an intent to stay in AVID form.
Current 8th graders - Applications are due March 5th
*This includes current 8th grade AVID students that want to continue with AVID in high school.
If you have any questions about AVID or the application process, please email Mrs. Ezell-Pattillo or Mrs. Groat, our AVID Coordinators, at lisa_ezell-pattillo@beaverton.k12.or.us or sara_groat@beaverton.k12.or.us
Principal Chats
All future principal chats will be postponed until further notice. This is because of the constant change regarding return to school guidelines. This topic is the most pressing issue for our families and Ms. Galvan would like to be able to inform you of the District's firm plan when a final decision has been made.
Until then, if you have questions or concerns pertaining to other topics outside of return to school please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Galvan directly via email veronica_galvan@beaverton.k12.or or her assistant, Cristina Guajardo cristina_guajardo@beaverton.k12.or.us.
You may also call the office, 503-356-2680 to set up a meeting.
Thank you.

Stoller PTO
Intel Employees: Updated Volunteer Info (Temporary Change)
Intel employees can track volunteer time up to 5 hours per day, per household, from Jan 1, 2021-June 01, 2021 for time spent on education and tracked to the school the child attends (i.e. Stoller). This temporary change can be applied to the employee’s child/children as well as other children they may be instructing. Hours can be logged at https://intel.benevity.org/
Please note that any donations made to school or PTO can be matched at https://intel.benevity.org/
Stoller Volunteers
Welcome Stoller Volunteers!
Volunteering in the 2020-21 school year will be unlike previous years. Although we are unsure what remote volunteer needs will be, we invite you to create a volunteer profile or update your existing profile. This will ensure you are able to help Stoller staff and students through volunteer work as opportunities arise. A volunteer profile is required for all volunteering within BSD schools. Please follow the steps below to update or create your volunteer profile. Additional information is available at www.stollerpto.com/volunteer.
Existing BSD Volunteers (new to Stoller)
Please send an email to update_volunteer_locations@beaverton.k12.or.us and request to add Stoller Middle School to the organizations listed in your mVP account. Provide your full first and last name as it appears in your profile. If you will no longer be volunteering at an elementary school, you may also request to remove that school from your profile.
New BSD Volunteers
If you are a new volunteer to the Beaverton School District, you must create a volunteer account. This process includes a background check.
- Parent/Guardian: Complete the Parent/Guardian Volunteer Application
- Community Volunteer: Complete the Community Volunteer Application (This applies to Grandparents, Nannies, Neighbors, etc)
- Youth Volunteers: Complete the Youth Volunteer Application
Within the application, please include all of the BSD schools where you are a volunteer. You will have one profile for all your BSD volunteering.
- This step also initiates a background check. It will come up for renewal every 2 years.
- Once your background check is complete, you will receive an email from Stoller PTO stating your background check approval status, and your volunteer profile at myimpactpage.com will be active.
Thank you for giving your time and talents to Stoller this school year!
If you have any issues with your device or logging in, you will need to contact the Student Help Desk.
