Welcome to 1B
Welcome to 1B! First grade is an exciting time as children embark upon new adventures in the world of learning. We are looking forward to a very exciting and productive year working with your child and will strive each day to make learning a fun and enriching process.
We are your child’s first grade teachers: Amy Czaja and Kendra Thomas. At the beginning of each year, we use the first few days to assess the class make-up. While we try to be as thoughtful as possible in assigning students to classes, we always need to make tweaks. Therefore, as a reminder, Mr. Saunders has expressed that class rosters are subject to change during the first few weeks of school. When these changes are made, they are always in the best interest of the students.
Here is some information about us:
Amy is thrilled to start her fourth year at Brooklyn Prospect! Amy has taught kindergarten and second grade at Brooklyn Prospect, as well as first and fourth grade at a public school in Washington, D.C. She received her undergraduate degree in Public Policy from Duke University where she became passionate about education policy and received her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Columbia Teacher’s College. When not in the classroom, Amy loves to spend time at the beach, reading, and playing with her adorable niece (and soon nephew, too!) .
Kendra has been working at BPCS for the last three years and is excited to return for another year as a first grade teacher. Originally from Brooklyn, NY Kendra has also studied Education at Delaware State University. Kendra is currently pursuing her Master's in Teaching. Kendra has also been working as a Reading Tutor in the Crown Heights and Canarsie areas for two years. Kendra loves traveling to other countries and spending time with her family and friends as well. This summer, she became a godmother to a beautiful baby girl name Khloe.
We look forward to seeing you all on the first day of school!

We would love to hear from you...
We are so excited to begin this year of learning and growth with you and your child. As we begin our time together, we would like to learn about your child’s interests and unique personality. Please write us a brief email about your child. We will forward your email to your child’s new teacher should he or she switch classes. We have included the following questions for your consideration:
What does your child love? Please tell us what your child is passionate about or share a topic on which he or she is an expert.
What are your hopes for your child this year?
As a family member, what supports do you need? How can we work as a team to create the best school experience for your child?
Will your child bring school breakfast and/or lunch on a daily basis?
Does your child have any food allergies?
Is there anything else that you would like us to know about your child?
Our classroom email is dtes1B@brooklynprospect.org. Please respond by September 12, 2016.
