April 2020 Newsletter
A Note from Mr. Hershey
Dear Sawnee Families,
These past few weeks have certainly been challenging for our students, parents, and staff members. I am beyond proud of the work we have done at Sawnee to strengthen the relationships with our families and to engage with our students in creative ways.
We will continue to stay connected with daily morning news broadcasts, Virtual Spirit Weeks, and most importantly, our teachers will connect with students based on individual needs. It is our goal to provide each student with the best experience they can have while learning from home.
Although we are doing everything we can do to support our students and families, the uncertainty of our current health crisis, along with changes to schedules and daily life may increase stress and anxiety in children. If you need support in any way, please don't hesitate to reach out. Our teachers, counselors, support staff, and admin team are available.
Thank you for all of your help as we partner together to do the best we can through these tough circumstances. As always, please do not hesitate to reach out should you need anything. We are here to serve you and your children.
Have a restful Spring Break!

Thank you for taking the time to take care of our teachers!
Class Placement 2020-2021 - Parent Input Forms
Although we are still working hard during the current school year, we are beginning to plan for the 2020-2021 school year. It is very important during our planning process to create the best learning environment for your students. We appreciate your input regarding class placement to assist with this process. Please complete the items in the form attached and return no later than April 14, 2020. We ask that you NOT request a teacher by name. Specific teacher requests, other than sibling requests will NOT be honored. If you have more than one child, please fill out an individual form for each child. When finished, please print and return a paper copy in a sealed envelope with attention to Derrick Hershey or "Save as" document and email to dhershey@forsyth.k12.ga.us.

Parents of Rising 6th Grade Otwell MS Students - A Message from Assistant Principal Jennifer Amburgy
Parents, We know you might be experiencing some mixed feelings at this time about your child coming to middle school next year – a lot of excitement mixed in with a little bit of uncertainty as your child enters a new stage of life. We hope to ease some of your fears and answer some of your questions about what to expect when they get to Otwell Middle School in the fall. While we would have hoped to be meeting our rising 6th grade parents in person tonight, we are happy to share with you our presentation for this special event! Our staff narrated the information in the slides to provide you with a better idea of what it will be like when your child arrives on our campus in the fall. This link is also found on our Otwell Middle School website and will be active until summer, so there is not a set time you need to watch it. In addition to the video posted on our website, there is also a copy of the Power Point with an active link embedded to respond if you are interested in signing up for Band. Also, several of our staff have included their contact information in the presentation to answer any additional questions you may have in the coming months. We are so excited to partner with you and your child as they enter 6th grade in the coming months, so please let us know if we can assist you in any way. Welcome to our Otwell family!
