Quote of the week
While speaking with students at Marietta High School, Dansby Swanson's Alma Mater, he very eloquently put words around the mystery of motivation....this kid gets it!
"I told the students that natural gifts are important, but only if they uncover our why for what we do. The why is what's most important to figure out. Our why is what fuels us and helps us discover our purpose in life."
Dansby is a current member of the Atlanta Braves MLB team. My first career win as North Paulding High School's Head Baseball Coach came against Dansby Swanson and his Marietta Blue Devils. The final score was 1-0. I fielded a team of only Freshmen and Sophomores and we beat a team with several college and pro prospects, including Dansby. Our why lead us to that win...our why was greater than our challenges.
Thank you to Mrs. Norton for sharing his quote!

Finding your Why
If I could write the perfect "advertisement" for our school...it would sound something like this...
"You know what I love about our school? Every single one of us comes to work every day to do something we love. We get to inspire students to do the things that inspire them. It's the most wonderful thing in the world. In fact, the fun thing is figuring out all the different ways we can help students and teachers be successful. It is really amazing. The best part is, it makes people want to be a part of our school because we do really well. We have a beautiful campus - you should come see us. We work with some of the greatest kids. I am sure you have heard about us!"
WHY would anyone not want to be a part of the school I described? What are you doing to help our school reach this point?
Find your why!

Mrs. Norton's students closing out a great lesson!
Mrs. Norton's 8th grade Math students were building and solving equations from "story" problems. Students were given the opportunity to share with their peers during a quick, student led closing. The "story" problems were also a great way to support our SIP!
Mrs. Kennedy's art classes were focusing on the fundamentals of art and learning!
It takes more than one horse to make the world go 'round!
Take a few minutes to read the article written about Andy Andrews' thoughts on ADD. I love the quick story he shares about the successful businessman he once encountered. That is definitely something that resonated with me.
a little competition never hurts!
Mr. Neal lets all of his classes know how they are doing. Who's the best?
The "D" Word
The topic of differentiation can bring out some interesting conversations, and it's use is truly an art. It is important to remember that you should always be purposeful with planning differentiation within your lessons.
The two pictures below are great, quick resources. Let us know if you have questions.
Don't forget about the upcoming Dynamic Differentiation Webinar on Tuesday (9/6/16). You received an email from the district earlier this week, and I forwarded to you as well.
The webinar begins at 4pm and ends at 4:30.
