2015-16 Family Religious Education Program Updates

Welcome Back FREP Families!

This Sunday, October 4th begins the 10th season of the Family Religious Education Program (FREP) at St. John Vianney!

After a beautiful summer that has transitioned to an even more beautiful fall, it's time for families, fellowship and faith formation to come together this Sunday. We are all looking forward to an exciting year of activity, an inspiring year of discoveries, and wonderful spiritual leadership from our liturgical and pastoral staff. Be prepared to be inspired, for sure! Mark your calendars for this year's FREP dates scheduled for:

  • October 4, 2015
  • November 1, 2015
  • December 6, 2015
  • January 3, 2016
  • February 7, 2016
  • March 6, 2016
  • April 3, 2016
  • May 1, 2016

2015-16 FREP Sunday Schedule

This year's FREP monthly meeting schedule will remain similar to previous years. Please note this year's schedule:
  • 9:00-9:30: Each FREP Sunday is a potluck breakfast provided by each family bringing a favorite breakfast "dish" to pass. Breakfast begins at 9:00 am
  • 9:30-9:35: Following breakfast a short time will be devoted to announcements and special events.
  • 9:40- 10:40 Pre-K and school-age children attend age-appropriate classes
  • 9:40-10:40 Adults have two options
  • Option 1: Parents with school-age children can attend "Parent Class Seminar" for current up-to-date information about how to assist their children with course work and at home and discuss current issues facing parents with others in a seminar style meeting.
  • Option 2: Adults or parents can attend special topics in current Catholic Teaching and/or themed topics related to the liturgical season with guest speakers/presenters.
  • 11:00: Attend mass if you haven't already!

No matter what age, or what interest, there will be something for everyone to learn more about in our Catholic Faith. It will be an opportunity to increase understanding of how even the littlest things we do for others (and ourselves) can make a world of difference in our relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ.

October FREP theme: Revelation and Creation

Students and adults will once again focus their senses to the first theme of FREP for the year on Revelation and Creation. Student assignments and readings for families will focus on how the beginning of human history, the beauty and awesomeness of creation has inspired people to think of God. Whether it was the power of a storm or the beauty of a sunset, humans have experienced creation as a revelation of the greatness of our creator. This is a perfect and humble way to begin our work and focus for the 2015-16 FREP year this Sunday!
