Just Keep Swimming

Dear Students,

Can you believe it? We are almost done with 3rd quarter! You've done a great job so far, but we're not done yet. We need to keep moving forward. Sometimes that's all we can do. As the wise Dory the Fish said, "Just keep swimming." Keep breathing, and keep swimming, and we will get there!

Many of you are wondering what the end of the year is going to look like; so am I! I don't have all the exact details, but I can tell you that I am working with teachers right now (their feedback is due to me on Friday, April, 16), on a few matters that are important to you, such as our middle school and high school awards assemblies/presentations, and final exam week. I promise that as soon as we get it all figured out, and triple checked to make sure we have followed New York State guidance to a T, I will share it with you (and your parents).

In the meantime, keep doing your best. I believe in you!

End of Year Device Turn-In

Please remember that all school-owned devices must be turned in at the end of the school year. We will share out dates and collection processes for this as soon as possible. If you happen to still have a device (or a case) from last year, we will take those, too!

Summer School and Credit Recovery

Many of you received letters regarding summer school. If you did, is not too late to turn this around. Several of you have had teachers (or your principal) talk with you about working on credit recovery. This is still an option, and one you should take advantage of!

Students who are going to benefit from summer school will be receiving phone calls or meeting requests from counselors within the next few weeks. Note: attending summer school does not mean you're doomed; it means you need a little more time. And, as I stated above, it's not too late to recovery! If you need help working on a plan, stop on down to the office or send me an email or a parent square message. YOU CAN DO IT!

Teacher of the Month

Want to nominate one of your teachers for Teacher of the Month? Use this form to identify a teacher who goes above and beyond for their students! I tell them they're amazing all the time, but it's more meaningful when it comes from YOU. See past recipients below:

November: Mr. Stewart

December: Mr. Buckley

January: Mrs. Rose

February: It was a TIE for Miss Markowitz and Mrs. Barefoot

March: Mr. Ingalls

I cannot begin to stress to you how appreciated and valued your teachers feel when you acknowledge them; thank you!

Please complete the form by 9am on Tuesday, April 20th so I can announce this month's recipient at our Faculty Meeting!

Students in grades 6-8 will be taking exams on the following dates:

  • ELA: April 26 (Cohort 1) and April 27 (Cohort 2)
  • Math: May 10 (Cohort 1) and May 11 (Cohort 2)
  • 8th Grade Science: June 7 (Cohort 1) and June 8 (Cohort 2)

These exams are scheduled for only 1 session this year, and do not count as part of your average. It is a measure to see your grown and proficiency of standards.

Students in grades 9-12 will be taking the Regents Exams listed below, none of which will be calculated as part of a student's average. If a student receives a passing grade in a course that ends in a Regents exam, the student will earn a credit exemption and will receive that exam waiver toward their graduation requirements. Exam waivers for graduation requirements will also be given to students whose final grades in each course that would have ended in a Regents exam is passing.

  • June 17: English Regents (Students in English 11/AP English 11)
  • June 22:Living Environment

Meet Mr. Feeny!

Big picture
In March, our Board of Education approved Mr. Feeny as our very own therapy dog. Mr. Feeny's human is Mr. Carrier, and there may be times before the year ends that you see Mr. Feeny hanging out here at school. He is in the process of becoming a certified therapy pup, and part of his training involves spending time in the environment where his services will be utilized. We are so excited to have our very own dog here at The Pound.
