Student Council Application and Election Information
Do you have ideas about how SMS could be a better place? Do you see a need in our school or our community that you'd like to do something about? You should run for office and make a difference! The Scottsburg Student Council will be having elections soon. This year we are going to follow along with the nation as we elect the leaders we believe to have the best plan for our community. Check out the SMS Community Page in Canvas for a video from the current Vice-President Meade McNeely. All application packet information will also be available on the Community Page. There are important deadlines to meet, so if you plan to run make sure to have all items submitted on time; NO LATE APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
Monday, October 26 - Application Packet is available in SMS Community on Canvas
Thursday, October 29 - Application Packet is due to Mrs. Zeigenbein. It is electronic this year. You will need to put it in Notability to complete. Two teacher recommendation forms are required; you will need to send the form in a Canvas message to the teachers and they will send it on to me. You still need to get 15 classmates to sign a petition for you to run for office. You will need to make a copy of the form in Google Drive and add people who would like to sign it.
Friday, October 30 - You will be informed about your status. If your packet is complete, you have two teacher recommendations and pass the grade and discipline check, you will receive a Canvas Message. It will then be your responsibility to create a campaign speech that details WHO you are, WHY you want to be a part of the Student Council, and WHAT you plan to do to help our school and community. You will create a campaign video of you giving your speech. Your video can be no longer than 1 minute 30 seconds.
Tuesday, November 3 - Your video must be submitted to Mrs. Zeigenbein by 3 pm.
Friday, November 6 - ELECTION DAY! The entire student body will watch their grade level canditates' speeches and vote on who to elect during Learning Lab.
Monday, November 9 - The election results will be announced in the morning announcements.
Thursday, November 12 - First Student Council meeting in the Great Room at 7:20 a.m.
Message Mrs. Zeigenbein with any questions!
