PANDEMIC ELECTRONIC BENEFIT TRANSFER (P-EBT) PROGRAM
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) is providing additional benefits through the Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) program, to help families purchase food for children whose access to free and reduced-priced meals at school has been impacted by remote learning this fall due to COVID-19. The program provides a benefit on an EBT card that can be used to buy food at authorized retailers, including most major grocery stores.
In the P-EBT program this fall, children are eligible if they had access to free or reduced-priced meals at school last year, their school district or charter school is eligible to provide free or reduce-priced meals at school this year, and their school district or charter school utilized remote learning for all students for at least five consecutive school days between August 17th and September 30th.
This is different than the eligibility criteria for P-EBT benefits in the spring, which was available to all children who normally access free or reduced-priced meals, regardless of school circumstance.
Families do not need to apply for P-EBT. Eligible families already receiving Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) benefits will receive an additional benefit on their existing EBT card. Families who received P-EBT in the spring and are eligible under the new criteria will receive additional benefit on their original P-EBT card. Eligible families who do not have an FNS or P-EBT card will be mailed a card. Families being mailed a new card will receive the card within the next two to three weeks.
If you have a question regarding the P-EBT program, please call the North Carolina EBT Call Center at +1 (888) 622-7328.

ALL families who would like to indicate their commitment to virtual learning for the remainder of the school year to this form. This is true even if you filled out the Ignite Request Form this summer. The Ignite FAQ is being updated consistently to reflect consistent questions we are receiving from families. DPS will host a “Virtual Learning and Ignite Town Hall” early this week with families to provide additional information. The time and registration information will be shared as soon as it becomes available. Please visit ignite.dpsnc.net for updates and the FAQ document. Please contact Matt Hickson with questions.
PARENTS AND GUARDIANS: REGISTER FOR IGNITE ONLINE ACADEMY TO REMAIN IN FULL-TIME REMOTE INSTRUCTION ALL YEAR
RETURNING STUDENT UPDATE INFORMATION IN REGISTRATION PORTAL
As you recall, we launched the online enrollment portal on July 15th. The portal allowed us to enroll new students, as well as to collect important information from our returning students. Additionally, this is how we are collecting several required signatures (i.e., handbook, military, etc.). Also, it allows parents an opportunity to update contact information. School Data Managers have been working with this data and getting it updated in PowerSchool.
The Returning Student Portal will remain open until November 5th because we want as many students as possible to be updated. The easiest way for a parent to update their information is in PowerSchool Parent Portal. We aligned the new deadline with the report card date in hopes of reaching more parents.
Thank you to schools that have been working hard to inform parents and assist with activating Parent Portal accounts. This will allow parents the opportunity to update information, and forms for the 2020-2021 school year. Also, Parent Portal allows parents to remain informed about grades and attendance throughout the school year. Please ensure your school is communicating the need for Parent Portal accounts and encouraging parents to complete the Returning Student Form. Please contact Nelson Surles with any questions you may have.
