Room 605 Happenings
Where fun and learning happen every day!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday, and I wish you much happiness in 2014. I have missed my third graders tremendously! I cannot wait to see their cute faces and hear all about their wonderful break. I am still ginning over my 12 Days of Christmas gift! My mother was a teacher and daughter is a teacher, and they thought it was the cutest idea ever, as did I. Please know I appreciate everything you do for me and for the classroom. I also apprciate the kind words many of you shared. Official thank you notes are forthcoming, but please know I have thought about all of you, and I do appreciate you very much! :-)
We are starting 2014 with our country report presentations. The students will then write an opinion piece based on what they learned about their ancestor’s country of origin. We will be mixing science and social studies as we study the different continents and learn more about the ecosystems in each area.
We will read Mr. Popper’s Penguins as a class, and then do a little research on a polar animal of choice, including the life-cycle of the chosen animal.
In math, we will continue learning our multiplication facts. All students should know their 0, 1, 2, 5, and 10 facts by now. The 9 facts may still be a little shaky, but please continue to have your child practice the 9 facts either by skip counting or using one of the “strategies” (e.g., finger trick) I shared. 3, 4, 8, and 7 facts are next, and then on to division and fractions…wow! There are fun online multiplication fact games to play on our Third Grade Math Symbaloo. The students all know where these are located. Perfect practice makes perfect, so please make sure your third grader is practicing at his or her level. Guessing does not help with memorization. Oh, and don't forget the Multiplication Bump game I sent home in December. There are game boards for 2-12 along with the number cards. If your third grader didn't make it home with the game boards, please let me know and I'll send home another set. It is a very engaging way to practice learning the multiplication facts.
As always, please do not hesitate to contact me regarding questions, concerns, or compliments about your sweet third grader. I am here to help you as well as your child. My plan time is from 1:35-2:25 on most days. Please email me or leave a voicemail and I'll respond as soon as possible. ~April Regnier
Congratulations to the Room 605 Spelling Bee winners!
Jake Fagen – Champion
Adam Budimlija – Runner Up
Dylan Massey – Alternate
As stated in a prior email, the winner and runner-up from each third grade classroom will represent the third grade during the all-school spelling bee. The classroom alternate will be in the all-school bee if the classroom winner or runner-up cannot participate. I will notify the alternate’s parents as soon as I know the alternate is needed to compete. The all-school spelling bee is on Friday, January 10 at 2:30.
Good luck to all and please let me know if you have any questions!
Quarter 2 Report Cards
Quarter 2 grade cards will be available for viewing via Skyward on the afternoon of Friday, January 10. Please contact the office if you have trouble viewing your child’s grades.
