Digital Citizen Responsibility
Ms. Greene's Third Grade Classroom
What is a Digital Citizen?
Media Balance & Well-Being is a Major Part of Being a Good Digital Citizen!
So what is media balance and well-being? Well, it is using the internet in a safe and healthy way (Kinder Technology, n.d.). It is also about understanding when it is or is not an appropriate time to use media (Common Sense Education, 2021).

How Can You Be A Responsible Digital Citizen & Balance Media?
- Take break times from technology! Students can have their teachers and parents establish set screen time breaks during class and at home (Common Sense Education, 2021)
- Set parental controls on technology that filter content, establish privacy settings, make time limits, etc., which contribute to "healthy media habits" (Common Sense Education, 2021).
- Work together with parents or guardians and teachers to decide when it is and is not ok to use media (Common Sense Education, 2021). https://www.digizen.org/digicentral/family-agreement.aspx (link to a family agreement example)
- Talk about how "screen and non-screen activities"( Common Sense Education, 2021) make you feel!
- Consider the rings of responsibility (Common Sense Education, 2022). Always remember that the choices you make on the internet have a ripple effect on you, the community, and the world. Find more information on the Rings of Responsibility in the video below!
