JDAL SCHOOL GOALS
Hello Dragon Families!
Students had a great first month learning routines and getting to know their fellow classmates. We continue to build a strong sense of community at our school through our morning and afternoon circle activities. Students will also work with their advisors to begin creating their academic plans for the year. This includes planning projects in each content area and identifying the types of field experiences one may be interested in pursuing. Another important aspect of this planning is goal-setting. At JDAL, we are focused on student growth. It is important to us that EACH student continues to grow academically, personally, and professionally.
As a school, we also have our own goals. We have many that relate to improving our school and how we can best assist students with their personalized learning needs, but we also have three major goals that we submit to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. As you will see, our school goals are also based on growth. This year, we are working toward improved attendance as well as academic growth in the areas of reading and math.
OUR GOALS:
1. CHRONIC ABSENTEEISM: Last year, 28% of our students were absent 15 days or more, which is considered chronic absenteeism. This number should ideally be less than 13%. We are looking forward to working with our families to make sure students are attending school EVERY day they are able. Our goal this year is to reduce our chronic absenteeism rate to 10% or less.
2. READING: We will work hard to make sure ALL students make growth in the area of reading. We will use the STAR Reading test and results to identify each student's current ability and will work with each student to design a literacy plan that will result in 100% of our students at least maintaining one year's worth of growth.
3. MATH: We continue to make changes to our math program to ensure student success. We anticipate the addition of integrated math programming and the opportunity to pursue math projects will result in 100% of our students at least maintaining one year's worth of growth according to STAR Math test results.
We encourage you to discuss your child's goals at home and ask about how they think their personalized learning plans will help them continue to make growth in all areas. As always, we are always open to hearing your questions, concerns, and/or ideas.
Thank you for being a dragon! We appreciate you and we believe in you.
With gratitude,
Jen + the JDAL Staff
