October 2019 Newsletter
A Message From the Board of Directors
Ahhh, fall - Crisp air, cozy sweaters, leaves changing, pumpkin patches, and the beginning of hunting season. I love everything about Minnesota's autumnal season, except that it is simply too short! Fall in Chisago Lakes offers so many opportunities. Our parks and trees are bursting with color and create a commanding backdrop to spending time outdoors. Hiking the Swedish Immigrant Trail or Allemansratt park and boating around the Chisago Lakes area require less bug spray and makes for a great time of reflection and cozy conversations. The Taylors Falls Paddle boat offers leaf tours weekly, some with dinner included!
Hygge, (Hoo-guh) the danish art of creating a cozy social atmosphere with something to drink and eat, is a word we use daily at Gustaf’s Up North Gallery. We offer books on Hygge and similar traditions such as Lagom, Lykke and Fika in our Scandinavian gifts section, and always have candles, Swedish cookies like gingersnaps, and Glogg in stock to help you embrace these traditions! As the temperatures begin to fall, we all crave coziness and comfort, whether indoors or around a warm fire pit. Gather your friends and family for a hygge moment at Northwoods Roastery, Gustafs on Main Eatery, or any one of our fantastic local restaurants. Why not live like the Danish and bring more hygge into your daily life?
Summer may be over, but look closely and you will find that as the leaves begin to change, a new season of local tourism begins and our region becomes a fantastic destination for day-trippers. If you have yet to check out one of our many thriving shops, I encourage you to do so! Gustaf’s Up North Gallery is part of an incredible group of businesses in the Chisago Lakes area. We in the Downtown Lindstrom Business Group discovered during one of our monthly meetings that you will find anything you could possibly need right in our own community! Join us for a meeting the first Wednesday morning of every month and learn more about what we are doing to stimulate our local economy. -Check out our Facebook page or call In The Moment Boutique, The Oven Mitt, All is Wellness or Gustaf’s Up North Gallery for more information.
Looking for more ways to keep it local? Each Thursday evening, Lindstrom shops are open late to give our neighbors more opportunities to visit, experience and shop. Small Business Saturday is in November, join us for our second annual Small Business Bingo game! During last year’s Small Business Saturday Bingo, we attracted hundreds of shoppers to join in on the fun and help support local shops. Want to get in on the fun? Let us know if you want to put your business on the Bingo boards. And finally, if you’re looking for a good or service that you can’t seem to find, just ask for it! We as local business owners strive to do the most for our customers and we will always try to get you what you need. Let’s keep it local!
Next time you’re out enjoying all that this community has to offer, I invite you to stop into Gustaf’s Up North Gallery - I would love to meet you! Thank you for your continued support of this small business community, we couldn’t do what we do without great neighbors like you!
Have a wonderful October!
Jana K. Lensing, Owner, Gustaf’s Up North Gallery
