Fall Classes Began September 9, In-person and Online (there's still time to sign up!)
These learning options are available (students choose which mode you want - 1, 2 or 3):
- Classes in-person at Hubbs Center or Hub@Harding - with online homework (masks required)
- Classes on Google Meet (Video Chat online at a scheduled time) - with online homework
- Coach - Independent Learning Online (with a teacher Coach)
- any time of day/weekend, whenever you have time
- available for ELL B and C, Math, College Pathways and GED
- for motivated students who are not available when google meet or in-person classes are available.
- students will log in to an online learning platform and do work independently.
- A teacher Coach will be available by email and/or during scheduled office hours (on Google Meet) for questions.
- students will be asked to complete a minimum of 4 hours of work a week.

ELL A1, A, B, and C (ELL - English Language Learning)
GED Preparation - online and in person
College Pathways - College Yes!, College Readiness, Tier 1 and Tier 2
Citizenship - American history and government for the citizenship interviewCommunication - more practice with speaking, listening, writing and computer
Everyday Digital Literacy - practice with everyday needs for the online world - listen to teacher description below
Computer Basics - offered online only
Driver's Permit - prepare vocabulary and content for the written permit test
Academic Reading and Writing - higher level for those with college from their home country
Academic Speaking Listening - for higher level students
ELL Math 2 - math for ELL students (must be CASAS 216+ and take a TABE math test)
Math 1, 2, 3, or 4
STAR Reading - additional reading support for struggling readers (online only)
Career Boost - for students who need to boost their skills to prep for a job class
Tech Help Available
Loaner Devices
If students need a better device for their Google Meet class/DL platform work, we have these devices available (you do need to be active and attending class/doing work online to receive one):
- iPads
- Netbooks
- a few laptops
- internet hotspots
Loaner devices require a $40 cash deposit, which is given back to the student when they return the device (around 8/31). If a student needs a device, you can let your teacher know OR students can fill out the tech request form here: Technology Request Form.

Fall Swimming Lesson Registration
Registration for fall swimming lessons is now open at Great River Water Park.
- $70 /1 full session/8 classes
- $35/1 mini session/4 classes
Fitness Center Memberships
Did you know memberships to our fitness centers cost just $30 for the entire year and give Saint Paul residents access to all thirteen locations? Memberships can be purchased in person at any fitness center location. Reservations must be made in advance and masks are required. Learn more at stpaul.gov/FitnessCenters.
Youth Winter Basketball Registration Opens Sept. 1
Youth winter basketball registration runs September 1-30. Visit stpaul.gov/YouthSports to register starting September 1. Save BIG when you register early.

Changes coming to free meals program
When the pandemic began, we shifted our free meals program to serve families in need through a curbside pick-up format. After almost 18 months and more than two-million meals served, we will now begin transitioning back to our usual free meals schedule and set-up. The last day for curbside pick-up will be Friday, August 27. Through a partnership with Youthprise, free suppers and snacks for youth 18 years of age and under will be available at designated recreation centers around Saint Paul. September aquatics updates
- Highland Park Aquatic Center will offer late-season hours from September 7-12, weather depending. Visit stpaul.gov/HPAC for late-season open swim, lap swim, water aerobics, and tot time schedules.
- Phalen Beach will be open daily from 12pm-7:30pm through September 6, then open on Saturdays and Sundays only from 12pm-7pm through September 26.
- Great River Water Park will reopen on Monday, September 13. Visit stpaul.gov/GRWP for fall open swim, lap swim, water aerobics, and tot time schedules.
- Como Regional Park Pool will close for the season after September 6.

Halloween softball & kickball tournaments
Municipal Athletics is hosting two Halloween sports tournaments on October 9-10, 2021. Adult Softball is available for men’s, women’s and co-rec registration. Adult Kickball is available for co-rec registration. Costumes are encouraged! Prizes are available for the top placing teams, including best dressed! Registrations will be accepted until noon on Monday, October 4 or once all brackets are full. So grab some teammates and register now! More details are available at stpaul.gov/Halloween.

General Highlights & Reminders

- The Northwest Como Recreation Center building remains closed due to ongoing maintenance from a water main break. Impacted program participants will be contacted directly by staff. We apologize for any inconvenience, and will provide updates as they are available.
- Saint Paul Mayor Melvin Carter issued new masking guidance for indoor spaces in Saint Paul along with requirements for staff and City-owned buildings. As data continues to emerge demonstrating the Delta variant’s heightened rate of transmission among both vaccinated and unvaccinated residents, the City of Saint Paul is following recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and encouraging everyone to resume masking when indoors and requiring masks for all staff and visitors in City-owned buildings, regardless of vaccination status, effective immediately. - Como Park Zoo & Conservatory is open. Reservations must be made in advance and face masks are required both indoors and outside, regardless of vaccination status.
- Free family fishing nights are back at Phalen Regional Park. All fishing equipment and bait is provided. Just show up and fish with TipsOutdoors.
- The Starwahls and Herb Brooks Foundation are providing girls ages 4-10 the opportunity to try hockey completely free on September 10 & 11 at Pleasant Arena in Saint Paul. Equipment is provided and no experience is necessary. Register at starwhals.com.
- Seize the summer sun at an outdoor event! There is still time to catch our Music in the Parks, Movies in the Parks and Fitness in the Parks programs.
- Registration is now open for school-year Recreation for Preschoolers, S'more Fun, and Rec Check programs.
- The City of Saint Paul is partnering with local businesses and organizations to bring an exciting series of pop-up science and technology programs and activities for youth called Summer Swarm. Visit the Tech For All webpage to learn about these upcoming technology activities.

- English language skills - speaking, listening and reading

- Job placement assistance upon successful completion of the course. Graduates can find work in nursing homes, office building, hotels, schools and a variety of other employers.

Professional Leadership Training
Free 12 week class Taught Online
