Gifts from the Heart

Do you ever have one of those weeks that challenges come all at once? This was one of those weeks for me. "Life" has presented itself each day this week and although the struggles at times were a little too much, God sent me reminders that all is well and he is near. His message is mighty and His messengers are present we just need to open our eyes and see His presence in them. This week for me that was co-workers putting my favorite drink on my desk, text messages and emails of appreciation and support, and students smiling and skipping from their cars to the building at drop-off. There were many times this week I silently said thanks to God for sending me that moment just when it was needed.

Miss Land's Kindergarten class visited me today and said the sweetest little poem of appreciation and presented me with this precious piece of art. This moment was pure joy for me. Listening to them share what fingerprint was theirs and what person represented them was a memory I will treasure. I promised them that their artwork would have a special place in my office, but what I didn't say was that it will always have a special place in my heart.

I just want to thank you for sharing your children with us each day at River Oak. Each and every one of them is a gift to our heart filled with God's message of faith, hope, and love. May you feel God's presence when you need it most and see the messengers He has placed in your path. Have a great weekend! Hope to see you at the Walk-a-thon next week!

P.S. I was told that Miss Land is the one hanging from the tree. :)

The Walk-a-thon is almost here! Come join us at this fun event for our students, families, and staff. We hope that everyone is able to get out and find sponsors. We are hopeful to make or break our goal of $12,000 this year!

Students will ride to Memorial Park on the bus, but we will be doing dismissal differently this year. Instead of coming back to school, we are asking parents to pick students up at Memorial Park. We would like students to be picked up by 3:15 p.m. We will send a note home to our after school care families to find out if you will picking up your child(ren) or need us to transport them back to school. We are hoping that this makes our after school dismissal smoother for this event. Thank you!

Grandparents' Day and See You at the Pole

Wednesday, September 28, 2016, will be our See You at the Pole event and Grandparent's Day celebration. Each family will be receiving invitations to give to their grandparents. If a grandparent is unable to attend the event, please use the invitation to invite another special person. The morning will start at 8:45 a.m. with everyone gathering at the flag pole. Children will be sharing patriotic songs, scripture readings, and prayers. After this event, all special guests will be invited to the assembly room to enjoy some coffee and doughnuts. Students will return to their rooms to prepare for a visit from their special guests. During room visits special guests are invited to go into classrooms and share some special time with their grandchild. Some grandparents may have more than one classroom to visit. We encourage you to plan to visit both of your grandchildren's classrooms. We will try and wrap up classroom visits by 10:45 a.m., so we can prepare for lunch. Thank you for spreading the word on this special day. We look forward to meeting our River Oak grandparents!

Changes for Morning Drop-off for the See You at the Pole Event

We will be making a one-day only change to morning drop-off on September 28, to allow for set-up for the See You at the Pole event. We are asking families to drop-off children at the lower level door. Please follow the same entrance and exit guidelines using a single car line.

For our special grandparents' day guests: There will be a limited number of parking spots reserved in the upper lot for those needing to be a little closer to the event.

Background Checks

If you are planning on assisting in the classroom, transporting students, chaperoning a field trip, helping with a classroom party, or working with students you will need to have a background check completed. This is just for individuals who have never completed this process at River Oak. If you have already completed the paperwork you are not required to renew at this time.

Chapel Lesson

Our lesson today focused on respecting the rights of others. During the lesson I shared some objects some that were obviously better or more desirable than the others. We discussed how Abraham had a similar situation, although what needed to be shared was quite larger. Abraham gave Lot the choice because he did not want hard feelings between them. Lot chose the nicer looking land. Abraham was rewarded for his selfless decision. Abraham put his rights aside and let someone else go first.

Scriptures referenced today were Genesis 13, Deuteronomy 5:32, and Philippians 3:9

Archery Training

Archery is coming to River Oak! We are in the process of writing a MoNASP grant to obtain the equipment to start an archery team at River Oak. The team will be made of students in grades 3-5. However, all students will get the opportunity to learn about this exciting sport during their physical education classes. If you are interested in attending the training to learn more about the sport or assisting with coaching, please give me a call in the office. Training will be two nights (4 hours each night) on October 18th and 20th. I think this is very exciting for our students and school. I would love to have many of us join together to get this program up and running here at River Oak.

Play Set Update

We are making progress on getting the play structure set in place. The site has been leveled to make room for the new play structure that is to be assembled next week. I am confident in the two men that I hired and really feel they were Heaven sent. I appreciate all that offered to assist with the project. I am praying the weather cooperates and this final timeline will allow for children to be enjoying the new play set late next week.
