PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Despite our “adaptive pause”, which we are hoping to last only until December 7th, teachers and administration are planning for the end of the academic semester. A few important things for parents and students to know: 1) Grades matter - there is no provision for “hold harmless” by the Governor’s office. 2) Final exams are modified. Due to the significant changes and modifications we’ve made to our curriculum and instructional platform, our final exams will look different - but each department has to be somewhat autonomous in how they determine their summative assessments. 3) For non-seniors, course selection will proceed after winter break. We encourage students to start considering what classes they wish to take and teachers are beginning to make recommendations. Thanksgiving break is a great time to reboot and plan ahead - we hope everyone takes the time over break to refocus and finish strong!

ACTIVITIES
While it isn’t the traditional start to the activity world, we have started!! We have focused on adaptability and maintaining our impact. Our sponsors and students have proven up to the task. They are learning new ways to engage students, perform, and compete. They are using new platforms so the kids can still show their amazing abilities. This year, many of our performances will be filmed, with COVID protocols in place, and edited for internal online distribution. Our SWSC groups have worked to allow our students to compete, sometimes from home and sometimes from Andrew, but they are still competing. VJA believes in growing the entire child and we will continue to find ways to do that in these unusual times.
EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONS
As we continue to work through many challenges in our current situation, how we help our students manage daily tasks is an ongoing point of emphasis. Since the fall, we have offered virtual help sessions, executive function coaching sessions, and in the next few days we will offer a presentation on Executive Functioning as part of our 10 Minutes of Your Time series. In this parent session, we will...
EXPLAIN what Executive Functioning is, why it is important, and what are the skills we are addressing.
HIGHLIGHT student supports.
REVIEW parent tools to support your child.
PROVIDE resources for additional help and information.

ATHLETIC BOOSTERS
Grab some donuts and Labriola pizzas the day after Thanksgiving! Come out to another Stan's Donut Fundraiser, November 27 from 9 AM - Noon! We will have dozen, half dozen, and frozen pizzas! This will be an entirely “drive up” event. You will not have to leave your vehicle. All donuts will be prepackaged. Support the Andrew Athletic Booster Club!
There will be no Booster Club meeting in December. Please enjoy the winter break with your families. The Athletic Booster Club wishes everyone a safe winter break!
We will not be having a Santa's breakfast, but don't worry, Santa will still be coming to Andrew! Santa will be set up under the canopy at the south entrance on Sunday, November 29, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Children will be able to drive up and drop off their letters to Santa and wave to him! Santa will provide goodie bags to the kids. This is all free to the community from the Andrew Booster Club. If you would like to make a donation to the Booster Club, you can drop it off with one of Santa’s helpers at the event!
Remember to visit our Go Fund Me Page and our online spirit wear sales! Andrew Athletic Booster Club needs all the support we can get during these trying times. We appreciate the continued support from the community.
MUSIC BOOSTERS
Early October, select music students submitted auditions to the Illinois Music Education Association to participate in their District Festival. Congratulations to the six band students, one orchestra student and one chorus student who were selected. In addition to the festival on November 21, they will also be part of the All-State Ensemble. Congratulations to Director Mark Iwinski who received an award from the Tinley Park Veterans Commission at the Veterans’ Day Ceremony. He was honored for the band’s many contributions to veteran’s events through the years. The Sax trio from the Wind Symphony was also invited to perform the National Anthem at the ceremony. EWP
