Claires Court Bulletin

Bulletin 10|Lent Term 2015

Information correct as at Friday 20 March 2015 3pm

The week started off with a magnificent Senior Girls and Senior Boys music concert. I was absolutely blown away by the quality of performances of all the pupils, but of course I was especially proud of the Senior Girls. To see so many of them involved in choirs, group ensembles, as soloists playing or accompanying themselves on guitars etc. From rock bands to flute choirs, Ed Sheeran to ‘Alma del Core’ (sung by Niamh Bates), and the finale with all the girls, boys and staff on the stage with a rendition of ‘One Hand, One Heart’.

On Wednesday this week we were thoroughly entertained at our Lent informal concert. We witnessed 47, yes 47 (!), acts perform. From singers to cellists, the girls sang and played their hearts out. I was blown away at the end when all of the girls from Reception to Year 6 joined together to sing ‘Love is an Open Door’ - they sounded wonderful! Read more >>>

The Nursery children have enjoyed the topic on elephants and have created lots of Elmers (and a Wilbur) and elephant masks. We have talked about the differences between African and Asian elephants and looked for them on our globe and world puzzle. Read more >>>

It’s official… reading makes you happy!

On the International Day of Happiness it seems only right to remind ourselves about the benefits of reading. A new report has revealed that those who read for just 30 minutes per week are 20% more likely to be satisfied with their lives.

The research, produced in partnership with Dr. Josie Billington at The University of Liverpool, and Galaxy® chocolate, who sponsor ‘Quick Reads’, found that readers are 21% less likely to report feelings of depression and 10% more likely to report good self-esteem versus non-readers, equipping them with a greater ability to cope with everyday life. With one in three adults in the UK not reading for pleasure, Galaxy® and Quick Reads are calling upon lapsed and non-readers to consider the wider health and wellbeing benefits of picking up a book and starting to read today. For further compelling benefits of reading see the fill report ‘Reading Between the Lines: the Benefits of Reading for Pleasure’ here:
