OLVCS Updates
April 30, 2021
Dear Parents,
When you drive through the parking lot, you may notice that substantial progress has been made on the construction of the new OLVCS playground. It is a few weeks away from completion.
The students, faculty, and staff of OLVCS want to send a special thank you to Maria and Brian Spencer who were the driving force behind the project. Without their dedication and generous donation, the project would never have gotten off the ground. We would also like to thank the Darnell and Kurpeikis families for their support in making this project a success.
Additional thanks is given to Dave Silner, Nick Boyle, and Michael Casciola who have been generously volunteering their time and expertise while leading the construction and assembly of the playground.
As we near completion of the project, volunteers will be need to assist with spreading stone and mulch. Watch for an email requesting assistance as we get closer to those dates.
Taking on the heart of Jesus,
Chad Packer, MEd
Principal, OLVCS
Let's Hit 58!
This September, our school will be celebrating 58 years of Catholic education. Let's use that number as a goal for our Yard Sign campaign. We have received lots of photos...so we only need a few more!
To get your family's yard sign, just email Mrs. Kolarik at kolarikc@olvcs.org and she will send the sign home with your student. Take a photo of your student in front of your displayed sign and send it in to Mrs. Kolarik to be eligible for a small prize raffle.

OLVCS Athletics Update
Crusaders Run and Jump Strong at State College Meet
As a result of another last minute change, the Crusader Track and Field team traveled up Westerly Parkway on Wednesday, April 28th to compete against the Park Forest Middle School student-athletes.
"I’m so proud of the showing our team had in our back yard at State College," said Coach Straub. "The Crusaders beat the heat with 24 athletes achieving personal records. Great day for the OLV Track Team!"
Coach Straub named OLVCS 7th grader, Marek Horgas, as the Track and Field Athlete of the Week. He set personal records in all 4 of his events: Discus, 4 X 800m relay, 400m, and 200m.
Five individuals met the qualifiers for the Altoona Championship Meet.

Learning To Think On Your Feet
Recently at Saint Joseph's students in the American Literature classes participated in Public Forum Debates. Public Forum Debate involves opposing teams of two, debating a topic concerning a current event. The topic for this debate was “Technology is a hindrance on personal communication skills.”
In prepartion, students studied the debate format, analyzed examples, and then conducted the research the topic. Both the affirmative and negative teams had to think quickly on their feet, present sourced arguments, and engage in cross-fire style questioning.
